I have a lot of experience working with the mousestate object, but I am having an issue with finding information regarding the mouse marker. I would like to know whether the mouse marker/icon can be altered.

I'm not sure to what extent Masayuki Akamatsu is maintaining these objects, but they're still listed at MaxObjects.com. That's the first place to look for this sort of question.

FWIW, the 'official' term is "mouse cursor," which will probably be helpful to use in searches.
