is there any way to save a text file or the like of the contents of the max window (the Max for live one that has no menu bar) to be reviewed later on? a lot of times testing patches in controlled scenarios can only go so far and they need real world experience to temper them. That is to say I need to be able to play music freely without worrying about what’s going on in my devices / patches. But if a bug appears it would be nice to have a log that I can go back to after the fact and troubleshoot it. So is there any way to do this with the printed out data of the max window? There's gotta be, right?

I wound up setting up my own method, which on the one hand was a little annoying to do but on the other I'm able to have it export the log file automatically when I quit Ableton, which saves a couple of clicks. In case anyone else finds this useful, here's what I did. these subpatchers

go in front of print objects and this bit of code

provides a drag and drop box where you specify the location desired for the log file.

I wound up setting up my own method, which on the one hand was a little annoying to do but on the other I'm able to have it export the log file automatically when I quit Ableton, which saves a couple of clicks. In case anyone else finds this useful, here's what I did. these subpatchers

Do Cmd-Shift-4 & Co. not work? They're deeper in the OS than most menu keyboard shortcuts.

It's not impossible that Ableton may have killed these commands when M4L is running, but it seems so much not worth the effort.

I realize these save pixels (rather than text-as-text), which may not be what you want. And you've found your own solution. But I would be curious to know.

I'm on Windows so I don't know what command shift 4 is supposed to do, but I tried control shift 4 and it didn't do anything that I noticed.

There is no way to save the contents of the max window when running through M4L - this is a long long long standing issue which is down to the Abes to handle, not C74, and they don't seem particularly interested in doing it :(

Now you tell us you're on Windows. How are we supposed to know if you don't say so?

Cmd-Shift-4 is one of several OS-level options on Mac OS for grabbing a screen shot.

Back in the days when I actually used "PC hardware" (as manufactured by a three-letter corporation) there was a dedicated key on the keyboard for grabbing hard copy. As I recall, you had PrntScrn and Alt-PrntScrn or something.

Prntscrn and Alt-PrntScrn still work on Windows - I just assumed he was after a cut/paste of the contents...
