[share] kelimba – a kalimba sequencer
my new patch is inspired by something i saw on the internet called "Coconut – Step-Sequenced Mbiras"
i’m not sure how popular this instrument is in this forum or in the world,
but this is something i’m really into right now.
i have been collecting and (unsuccessfully) making so-called kalimbas when i saw the web-page so i thought i’d do my version of this.
so here’s the patch and sound samples:
(it is a max/msp4 patch, which i’m not sure about the compatibility with max6…)
the graphic is much less impressive than the original but it has its own things.
wah-wah, which is somewhat the essential of kalimba performance, delay, granular efx, and reverb.
also you can tune and detune the keys, which is another realistic feature, because kalimba is usually (doesn’t to have to be though) out of tune a little bit.
this is the kalimba i took sample from:
it is handcrafted by a japanese kalimba artist, ryuichi koike.
if you search his name on youtube you can get some ideas of what he does.
here’s his album on iTunes:
the sound samples of each key are included in the zip file.
if you want to try your own version, please feel free.
as always, everything you find on ondomusic.com is in public domain.
i hope you enjoy.
Wonderful, thanks a lot. I just love your work.
It doesn’t work out of the box on Max 6 though due to buffer~ parsing errors.
hmm, that’s too bad.
the patch didn’t even show up in max6 runtime…
I love it !
unable to edit the patch, though…
you should be able to edit .mxt file.
here is just the patch in max6 format.
oops. one more time…
so i did try this patch in max6 and it didn’t give me buffer~ errors.
none of the knobs showed up though.
there may be max4-max6 issues as well as win-mac issues too…
Afaik pictctrl doesn’t like bmp files, at least on mac – i’ll try a M6 version later…
cool – nice interface & sounds. does anyone have the zip for "Coconut – Step-Sequenced Mbiras" which is giving me a 404 errror
thank you, Mr. Anderson!
very nice patch, very nice graphics.
