I've never used Gen but I was wondering if it sends signals between devices at sample rate, without the sort of issues that send~ and receive~ have. Could it be true? I'm really just looking to send ordinary messages with sub millisecond responsiveness, but I could easily code my messages in signals to get it done,..

Gen~ is internal only audio processing it can't be used to send messages outside the gen~ patcher. You can output signals outside gen~ and use them to control your patches. It could be signal of your current sample precise calculations. Yet, in order to get them in Max world you still need snapshot~ or number~ objects.

I don't think this is the case. You can make patchcord connections and have no problems with latency, or you could send the audio via send/receive rather than send~/receive~, since the first one will be treated identically to a patch cord connection. (With the stipulation that, like a patch cord connection, it can't handle feedback routings without a tapin~/tapout~ pair

I'm not sure what the latency situation is involving reading to/writing from a buffer~, but I'd imagine that could encounter some weird priority issues.
