I would like to record from two firewire cameras directly to a file on the harddisk. The 2 cameras should be merged into a split-screen image. I have tried to build a patch with the jit.scissors and jit.glue object. The patch seems to work properly, but a big problem is frame-dropping.

(I am using an 8core MacPro with an additional pci firewire card to circumvent firewire conflicts).

Could anyone have a quick look at my patch and tell me, where and how I could optimize it ?

I would like to record at (minimally) 15fps with a resolution of 640X480 (or higher if possible).

instead of using jit.glue, try using jit.matrix's srcdim and dstdim attributes to place the images appropriately in a large enough matrix to hold both of them side by side. There are some tutorial patches on this topic if you're not familiar with them.

i tried using srcdim and dstdim. this seems to work for one video signal, but i am not able to join the two video signals into a split screen.

do you have any suggestion how to join the signals?

but the problem of dropped frames persists:

frame-drops are quite special, i.e. there are phases without a single drop (5min) and phases with every 2nd or every 3rd frame dropped. frames are dropped only in one camera-channel at a time (but both channels have frame-drops).

usually the frames are dropped during a period of 40sec, then the recording is fine for several minutes (1 to 5 minutes)

i attached one firewire camera (the imagingsource, dfk 31bf03) directly to the macPro firewire bus and the other camera (same model) to a pci-express firewire card (Tango Express 800).

Any suggestions, whether my hardware-setup might cause this?
