synth buildng – filter adsr amount

July 18, 2011 | 9:47 pm

building a synth, want an envelope on my filter, no problem applying the adsr, but cant work out how to adjust the amount at which the adsr controls the filter freq, whilst still being able to control the filter freq independent of the adsr…

i tried using a multiplier in conjunction with the live dial controlling the freq, but no results.

there are several how you can do it, but however, if there is a parameter for
frequency and you want this to be 0. from the persoective of the modulation
envelope, both [+] and [*] will be involved.

Somebody once described Roman’s style as "condescension". I don’t think that’s a fair assessment at all; I think his style is just plain funny.

This screams of RTFM so I’m not going to delve into your patch and do it for you, but I’ve had a hard few days on the forums, so I’m going to do some charity work to try and redeem myself. This should illustrate the principle.

You will notice that I’m summing my control signals at audio rate. [adsr~] spits out an audio rate signal (note the stripy yellow patch cord), so to combine it with the value set by your cutoff dial you will need to use a [sig~] somewhere.

If you’re not sure about the differene between Max messages (control rate) and MSP signals (audio rate) then you should definitely re-read the MSP tutorials.

Good luck and HTH.

Here’s another way of approaching it. I’ve found that reading up on synth manuals can be helpful for figuring out how to implement key-following and filter envelopes.
