Interesting. I wonder how it compares to the DIY multi-touch table
that Eyebeam researchers just released.
I would guess that the Cubit is more reliable since it uses IR
illumination, but I don’t have much experience with MT surfaces.
Regardless, I’m excited that there are more options out there.

The paramount functionality that can be gained from IR tracking as
opposed to visible light tracking is that IR tracking allows you to
project onto the surface while tracking – in my opinion that’s what
makes multitouch viable; the ability to overlay visuals.
I’m interested in these simple webcam solutions in combination with
Jitter, since we already have blob tracking, all we need is IR video
coming in. I need a bit of dough to start exploring the possibilities (I
already sourced a table top with matte finish) but this is really
looking like a lot of fun already.
This is Seth Sandler (creator of the MTmini). If you look at the rest of my blog, i’ve actually built a full multitouch table that utilities music based applications. Right now I have a PD patch that works with everything, but hopefully i’ll have time to port things over to MAX so it’ll allow basic multitouch functionality within the environment.
The current blob tracker I’m using is opensource and can be found on my blog and nuigroup.com (the place where a bunch of us are building DIY multitouch devices). I’ve tested the jitter blob tracking, but the current one I’m using (and future one I’m helping to work on) is proving to be much more robust.
I hope to hear from you all in the future and we can make some interesting applications using MAX =)
