So essentially I'm using function with the line~ object to create an amplitude envelope for my FM synthesizer signal and I have the velocity routed to a trigger object for the envelope for my modulator and my carrier, when I let go of a note, the velocity sends another message through, causing the envelope to begin again. So the amplitude envelope is being triggered not only when I press a note, but when I release it as well, which isn't how I want it to work. Thank you for your patience with my newb question

Try this. The [sel 0] outputs everything except a 0 from the right outlet, so it will only trigger when there is a note on message.
