I use Live 8 on stage to trigger clips live. The quantize option allows to trigger "early" (before the downbeat) but still remain in sync, but it does not allow to trigger "on the spot", because if you trigger 1ms after the downbeat then the clip start only one bar later.

On the contrary, in Fruity Loops (only for PC), I read :

"Tolerant - Clips normally missed when triggered slightly late will be triggered immediately, so a small part at the beginning of the Clip will be truncated (this is usually preferable to delaying the Clip until the next bar)."

I believe there is a way to use Max4Live to implement this "tolerant triggering" mode.
