Is there no way to make the presentation setting permanent even when you are turning off/on presentation mode for that object??

ok, figurt it out, use "hidden". Why does that message not show up in list of allowable messages for the object (i.e. text box or other)? Are there other such messages? Is there a list somewhere?

Yes, using "hidden" is the easiest way to hide / show objects to presentation mode.

The reason, i think, that it doesn't appear, is that the "hidden" is actually an attribute. It is the attribute named "Hide on lock".

If you open an object's inspector, and click on the @ at the bottom (Show attribute names), the left column shows the messages you can send to that object to directly set its arguments.
