I'm looking for a way to make a M4L midi effect that only outputs notes on a bang (from within the patch) and only outputs the notes that it's getting at the input

i could be playing a melody / chord sequence into max as midi (within a m4L midi effect) then it doesn't output anything until it receives a bang, at which point it sends out all the notes that it's got as currently "on"

my thinking is maybe midi parse to somehow determine what notes are on / off at any one time? or is there something better

what could i use to hold the information of what notes are on and off at any time

i'm sure its something simple but i cant find a way to do it and was hoping someone might know an easy fix

For just easily stashing the pitches of currently held notes, and retrieving them all with a single bang, check out the bag object.

If you want to store pitch and note-on velocity together as a pair, you might want to use something like the coll object instead.
