Hello! I'm trying to use 2x Akai APC20s to send and receive MIDI data in a Max patch.

In previous patches where I've used MIDI controllers I have always been able to select the device for notein, noteout, ctlin objects etc by either sending a message with the device name or using midiinfo and umenu objects.

The problem is that because both APC controllers have the same device name, whenever I use these methods I am only able to select one of the APC20s to send / receive MIDI data.

The only other way I know of is to double-click on every object that is sending/receiving MIDI and select the device manually, however my patch has so many of these objects this is not really an option!

Does anyone know how to differentiate between 2 identical devices in Max or anything else that could help me?

Problem solved! thought I would post the solution here in case anyone else has a similar problem...

If you open "Audio MIDI Setup", you can change the name for each MIDI device, this name then shows up in Max along with the original device name, so you can differentiate 2 or more of the same device.
