I don't understand the sig~ object. I've read the tutorials up to that point and cannot get it.

This extremely simple patch complexes me.

I think this is stuff you already know but....I use [sig~] when I need a continuous value as a signal - a number box only gives a value when you change it (usually). In the patch you provided, [sig~] is doing two things: amplifying the frequency of the first [cycle~] from -1, 1 to -440, 440, and then this signal is modulating the fixed continuous value from [sig~] (the two signals into the lower [cycle~] are added), frequency modulation.

This patch does the same and makes it a little clearer, including comments.
