I have been wondering this myself. for awhile the net was all a flutter over max/msp 5 and the ableton cycling 74 project. But I haven't seen anything more than guesses and wish lists.

from what i recall cycling had a demo(?) in a music trade show awhile ago.

I took the CNMAT Max/MSP night school a few weeks back (excellent class by the way) and David Zicarelli was a guest speaker the final night. He said they would like to release Max 5 by the end of the year. "like to", not "would". Software releases are almost always delayed, so I am hoping for Spring 2008.

I also seem to remember hearing that the Ableton collaboration was going to result in a separate product line, not some Live-like features in Max 5. But I'd expect it will influence Max development.
