I created the following patch that measures delay time between bangs in samples:

And I don't understand why it seems to work accurately. As the Max scheduler has a min interval of 1ms I was expecting it not to be able to measure interval below that threshold correctly. But it does!

Why is that? Is The [del] object running in it own thread and therefore able to delay by times smaller than the scheduler interval?

Another curiosity: If I place a Breakpoint after [del] and step through [timer] still gives the accurate time?

When entering a negative value in the range from -1 to -1198 (having set a sampling rate of 48kHz in the Audio Status) into the "delay in samples" numbox of the patch [timer] still reports the "correct" value even though delay cannot delay by a negative time amount (or maybe it can see the near future!!! - wow ;) ).... outside this range the output is as expected "faulty". The range of negative numbers being able to produce the "correct" calculation varies with the sampling rate. I.e: with 44.1kHhz the range is from -1 to -1101...

The negative number range only "works" in Max 7, Max 6 outputs one scheduler interval - wich makes more sense to me ...

for your first question : the max scheduler time thing is for ui events, messages between max objects happen at computer time (as fast as possible) ; ie messages can be passed at non-user-related timing - indispensable for things like [uzi]

i don't understand a lot in those things ! but here goes !

Why is this working (It seem I still don't understand the scheduler completely)
