i wan't to buy a fligt joystick to use with max msp's [hi] object on OSX(10.5.5). wich one can i buy best? does it matter? it is quite important for me that all the knobs on the thing will work in maxmsp. i have limited funds. max 100 euro, but offcourse, the cheaper the better.

There are plenty of joysticks to choose from. From a lot of different makers.
Logic and Creative are the main cats, pretty cheap and do the job
They can retail from anything like 25-30 euros all the way to 150 euros.
Best bet is from a Games shop, even HMV or Virgin (now Zavvi). or better yet GameStation, because they do second hand ones

      hehe, thanks.
could i use two (or more) joysticks at the same time?
    • Sep 30 2008 | 8:42 am
you can't use two of the same named joystick, as far as i'm aware. STEIM make a lovely piece of software called junxion that does lots of nice human interface stuff, including mapping and scaling, as well as tables and variables and all sorts. takes a lot of the fuss out of using [hi] and has (multiple) wii remote support too

if you can't use two off the same, would that mean that i can only use one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-X52-Flight-Control-System/dp/B00030GSJY/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1222767260&sr=8-3 ? or would that be seen as one controller.

The Saitek X52 is actually a single USB device - the two parts of it are daisy-chained with a mini-DIN-something cable. It appears in Max as a single HID device (with a huge number of controls).
Don't buy one unless you REALLY like blue LEDs. (Luckily, I do:
      )

Any Hi compatible Joystick will work with Max on OS X. I would assum it is, but I didn't test...

Oh, and it's spelled "spelled" not "spelt."
    • Oct 24 2008 | 7:03 pm
You are not wrong, but you are also not right.
In the form of sentence, i felt 'spelt' fitted better in with the sentence. You can use spelled, sure. But i felt spelt was a better choice.
I don't want to get in a whole forum post about this, but felt i had to reply and say you can use spelt.
It is like using 'to' and 'too'...

No idea if a Wii remote would work for you, but it works here (with OSCulator) very nicely.
