A base audio track loaded into a buffer. On each bang, I want a short segment somewhere in the base to get overwritten/replaced by a short random segment — but the intruding segment is drawn randomly from one of 

 different source files each time (so the base gets progressively "invaded" by two different sonic identities, alternating unpredictably).

I'm guessing this means keeping the base as one mutable buffer that I keep punching new content into over time. Would 

 be the way to copy a chunk from a source buffer into a specific spot in the base buffer? Or is there a cleaner/more standard technique for this kind of "overwrite in place" operation?

Just recently I updated to Tahoe on my Macbook Pro M1 and now Max is super laggy. Ever other few object I want to place makes the software hang for a few seconds before going on. I cannot use it. Help patches open up super slow etc. etc. 

I didn't have issues before. I updated Max too after the macos update. Anyone having similar experiences or suggestions?

Thanks to Bottles everything works with a better graphical interface, featuring excellent boot, backup and export options, and it’s much faster than Lutris!

Maybe somebody can help with the ‘umenu’ object not working?

Return to the main screen of your Max Bottle -> remove FL Studio (or other chosen programme, remove it if you don’t need it, as it takes up a lot of space and the installed dependencies and settings will remain in that Bottle!)

It seams a long process but was completed in about 40 minutes.

[ortho] — an invented-language generator external

I've released ortho, a Max external that generates invented language: pseudo-words that hold the shape and internal consistency of a language without belonging to any existing one.

Every seed names a different language — more than four billion of them. Go looking and you'll find tongues that are clipped and consonantal, others long and vowel-heavy, others that sound like they have grammar. Pick the one you want and the seed keeps it: same number, same language, on any machine, forever.

bang gives you a paragraph. tokens N gives you exactly N words with no punctuation. section mints a new cast of names and topics without changing the language itself.

Seven dials control recurrence and punctuation — how often names come back, whether phrases return whole, where commas fall. Words come out the left outlet as symbols, one per atom, and the right outlet reports why each word appeared: freshly generated, a function word, a topic, a name, or part of a recurring phrase. So you can colour by origin, or spawn something when a name shows up.

macOS, signed universal binary. Drop the folder in ~/Documents/Max 9/Packages/ and restart Max.

The language engine is a small C library shared with a JavaScript reference implementation and an openFrameworks addon, so a seed produces the same words in all three. Output is diffed against published golden vectors rather than assumed — the conformance suite is in the repo.

I have two 360° videos, each played by its own 

 at its center, with pan/zoom controlled via UI.

 set, and its captured output is patch-corded directly into a 

 — layer 1 for camera A, layer 2 for camera B — both inside one shared 

, all objects living in the same top-level patcher (I think GL objects need true top-level placement to bind reliably at all, not nested in a bpatcher or subpatcher).

Camera, mesh, and material aren't bound to any named context. I've tried wrapping each camera+mesh+material trio in its own 

, with and without wiring the trio to the node's middle outlet) to try to keep the two trios isolated from each other — none of these variations fixed the actual problem.
