Max/Msp Version 7 is used as a means to prototype electronic circuits composed of microcontrollers (MCUs) and microcontroller PCB boards. Hence the name: Physical Max. The circuit is the hardware equivalent original patch prototyped in Max. Max turns out to be an excellent choice as an embedded systems prototyping platform since the languages of circuits and of Max are both diagrammatic. And so the distance between prototype and product is made minimal.

Not yet, but there will be. To clarify, this is a prototype project that we created in the Creative Automata (CA) Lab to seed discussion and projects that will be created by students in my CA class this semester. I am attaching the Max patch for which this video displays a physical realization using Teensy 3.1s and serial communication. The next step for this particular model is to embed this physical network within objects that are relevant to what is being modeled (rabbit population growth).
