Introducing Toolbox (formerly Share)

The latest addition to our website is the new Toolbox section. You can post objects, abstractions, and patches for other users to try.

http://cycling74.com/?post_type=toolbox

Since it includes all the info from the old Share section, there are tools that may need updating, descriptions, and tags. Users can update their tools and add new tools.

If you have shared tools on this forum in the past, it’d be great if you would add them to the Toolbox, too. The goal is to make it a valuable resource for all users. (Are you part of the “Sharing is” search results? http://cycling74.com/forums/search.php?q=%22sharing+is%22 )

Last, if you want an icon to appear with your forum posts, tools, and projects, you can easily add it here: http://en.gravatar.com/

Thanks,
Lilli

hey, i just found out about that 2 days ago, and the first thing i thought was
that it is about time to add something to the share pages finally.

the second thing i thought was asking you to give us those code buttons for
the forum, too.

it looks great, however!

Am I doing something wrong? I went to the page and clicked on the first one:

http://cycling74.com/toolbox/ubc-toolbox/

which takes me right back to the toolbox “view all” page. Same for all the other links.

Safari 5.0.3, OSX 10.6.5

Toolbox is back. Thanks for your patience.

@ro2
Is the download problem with one Tool or all?

Hi Lilli.

I have just submitted a tool by Daniele Ghisi and myself, but only my name and avatar show up in the preview – even though I have marked both of us in the authors fields.

It would be very important that both authors are correctly reported. How can this be achieved? Can you have a look at this?

Thank you very much

Nice to see this available. I would like to see a date associated with each tool (and ability to search by date). Both original upload date, as well as last updated date. Would help to be able to identify “what’s new” on the site…

We appreciate the feedback. This Toolbox feature is something we have wanted to do forever, and we’re happy to finally have it in place. Now that it’s up and running with the essential features, we will be working hard to improve the functionality and browsing/submission experience and will continue to update it. If you have any gripes, requests, or general feedback, we’re happy to hear it. Thanks to everyone who has already submitted Tools!

@andrea: With the initial version of Toolbox we only support one official author for each Tool. We have some plans to offer support for collaborator credits in future updates.

Thank you Andrew.
We look forward to having both our names on the page!

@dan: date == project number?

@Roman: yes, that addresses the example case that I mentioned, but having the date also would be better, since it gives the knowledge of just how new or old the product is, much more so than the sequence number…
