FlowSwing
Hands-on tools for exploring non-isochronous rhythmic structures.
FlowSwing is a set of Max/MSP devices for real-time rhythmic transformation and modulation. It introduces flexible timing grids that place beats at uneven positions while keeping the overall structure easy to shape with just a handful of controls. Patterns can be locked to the beats of non-isochronous grids so timing shifts dynamically as the grids change, making it easy to explore swing-like feels, asymmetric structures, and polyrhythmic interactions live—without tedious manual edits—while staying musically coherent.
The package includes devices for sample-accurate sequencing and envelope generation, step-based parameter control, and audio time-warping with editable warp markers. The devices feature performance-ready interfaces for hands-on improvisation and exploration, with modulation routing and integration with Max's pattr and snapshot systems for automation and reliable recall.
FlowSwing provides a malleable canvas for timing within digital music
practice.
