Philip Meyer

he/him
Los Angeles, USA

Philip is a multimedia artist and educator living and working in Los Angeles, CA. He comes from an Ableton-and-drum-machine background and learned Max on the internet. Lately, Philip has been investigating techniques for creating and generating rhythms. He documents those explorations on YouTube and helps coordinate Max workshops and community events in Los Angeles.

Philip’s Max journey started with a fall off a ladder, a broken arm, and a handful of weeks spent inside. Since then, he’s been engrossed by Max. What he loves about Max is its ability to blur the line between art and engineering, transforming artists into programmers and vice versa. Much of Philip’s own journey into Max was solitary learning through videos, reference docs, help patches, and late-night tinkering. He’ll always love patching alone but has found new joy in the Max community both online and IRL.

Philip is active in the Los Angeles Max community, helping to coordinate workshops and community events. He discusses Max techniques on YouTube and both asks and answers questions on the Max Discord. In addition, he works one-on-one with artists to help them learn Max and explore new creative ideas.

Philip has created audio, visual, and audiovisual work and performances using Max. He loves energetic rhythmic music and lately has been exploring techniques for creating novel and strange rhythms in Max.
