Having problems with jit.vcr....
I'm attempting to build a live video capture/web upload patch. This is about the capture part of the patch.
I've tested out the jit.uldl part usina short bit of video made in FinalCut Pro. The relevant thing here is that the movie is just over 3 minutes long, uses AAC for the audio codec and AVC for the video codec. File size is just over 63mb, which is about right for uploading and downloading from a simple website.
For testing out jit.vcr I'm using that small file as input (in jit.movie) (see patch below).
I've tried out the h264 and Apple PrRes 422 codecs. (h264 because that's the codec that my website building software says to use. Files are supposed to be mp4, but I've not gotten to that bridge yet).
What I'm finding is that the output files from jit.vcr are very much bigger, and that the audio consists of high level white noise!
Looking at the output file, I can see that the audio codec used is PCM and the video codec is RGB / raw. a 31 second recording is 304mb - way too big!
So -
1. Any idea as to why I'm getting white noise rather than the audio I'm inputting to jit.vcr?
2. Is it actually possible to produce small, web-ready video files in Max7? (If I need to run the Max output files thru a separate app to compress them, that kind of defeats the object of this whole patch!)
3. if so, which of the _many codecs should I use? (I'm using QT rather than AVF as some of the other things I want to do require QT)
One other thing - if I turn flatten on for jit.vcr, Max crashes as soon as I press the [stop] message.
Here's the basic vcr patch...
no-one else having problems with jit.vcr?
hi david. jit.vcr is currently broken in max 7. it will be fixed in the next update.
Thanks Rob,
2 things...
Is there a fixed incremental update? I was hoping to try it out in an installation at the end of next week.
Is there a particular codec you'd recommend that will produce smaller, web-ready files?
Thanks
David
the update will be out soon. for web ready codec, use h264.
Has this been fixed yet? I still can't get rid object to work 8 months later.
the problems reported with jit.vcr have been fixed. if you're experiencing different problems then we're going to need the details: OS, arch, engine, patch to reproduce.
thanks.
Updating here with my fix now (in 2025 using max 9) just in case a poor sot like myself finds themselves trolling the forums for an answer: Turn off patch audio and matrix input to the VCR object before hitting stop. Worked for me! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
