LiveAPI: discovering properties of External Instrument

Is it possible with Max or Max JS, to read the "Midi To" (port name) and the channel property of the External Instrument device?
If not, would it be possible to do this with a custom python Midi Remote Script?
ClyphX Pro has some example Max devices that use JS objects that interact with a remote script (script being ClyphX Pro ) .
