RNBO > Multichannel Plugins

Hi everyone,

I would like to create multichannel plugin, especially AAX, but VST3 of course.
I wonder what is the good pratice for this purpose.

I wold like to create RNBO pacth, export in C++ format, then create AAX and VST with juce/cmake etc

For now, I have to option :

1- Dev a mono instance, and export C++ like this. JUCe alolow to create multichannel version. Protools seems to create automaticly as mono as needed when loading plugin.
It is possible to share a mono sidechain for all mono instances, for comp/lim ect

2- Dev a 16 channel plugin; when loading a plugin, protools send an information about how many channels it is using "getchannel". Then with objet polyphony and voicecount, is is possible to disable some instances, if linking with this information getchannel. (haven't tested yet)

My goal is not to use the simple multimono mode of protools. Not accurate, for compressor or complex plug ins. I need at least the shared sidechain

Either (wrong) way is to create a 16 channels like 2- , but I do not want all 16 channels processing when using only the stereo format . To much processing lost... So I need a way to not active unused channels.

And of course, I would not have to export and build as many multichannels format exist...

Does anyone have experience something in this domain ? Is there a good practice ?

Many thanks for reading me
Loris

ps : do not consider the avid process to became a certified dev, pro tools dev etc, avid "administration". It's a pure dev code chat of course.
