Staying creative and not over engineering

Hello Max/MSP community,

How does one stay creative when putting together patches, instead of meticulously engineering them?

The answer to this question may seem simple enough, but as an avid programmer myself, I can confirm an 'engineering' mindset to working with this technology is rarely ideal (at least in my opinion anyways).

Why do I say this? Because, at least from my understanding (and experience), Max/MSP is a creative application that is intended for the exploration of algorithmic art. Not (necessarily) the exploration of computation.

Please do correct any mistakes I make while writing this. I am only a newbie, so be easy on me.

Thanks,

engineering can and possibily should be creative, too, but you probably talk about image editing or making music, and in my experience you can solve this by not having a deadline when the create work should be done. work on your project, when you notice the requriement to refine your custom software, program software, when software is done, switch back to working at your artwork.

Hello Roman,

Thanks so much for your advice.

I guess any time I feel bogged down by chores (or things like that), I get less creative. So I can definitely understand what you're saying.

Artwork is made through the journey of experimentation, which is supported by the necessity of time to not be pressured.
