I use the 'key' object to create keyboard shortcuts on almost every key on my laptop.  Very handy for performance, but obviously it can be irritating when I'm in editing mode, and all those keys start accidentally triggering things as I type.  Is there any easy solution to this problem?

I thought about sending the key output through a gate, which I could then turn off with (yet another) keyboard command when I start editing.  But I'd have to remember to do that every time I go into edit mode, and besides it's a pain.  (Also, I couldn't use a key command to re-enable key when I'm done editing!)

hello everyone. first of all. happy to see that i already had an account at this website! Trying to get back into Max/Msp/Jitter after a 12 year break. I'm working on a film basically and have to generate visuals that respond to sound. I have built specific subpatchers throughout the weeks i have been working on it - it is meant to create the visuals and have them respond to sound that is being played. It is meant as a visualiser to have something appear when one of the main characters is talking. So quality of video, speed, scalability and quality of animation is of paramount importance.  

However as I am an amateur programmer (since about 20 years ago ) - I know how to work. I have subpatchers that do specific things and every day am working on troubleshooting and figuring out how to them work. I already generated the FINAL design. So the rendering is not really an issue. Now only the animation is left and I need help perfecting that. 

So far I have audio_player/looper subpatch, orb_visuals subpatch (render and some animation functionality), BPM to ms speed converter for qmetro that drives the rotation of the renders. I have already converted the sound file being played successfully to numbers with scale and clip and stuff. The way everything is setup it should be growing and shrinking based on loudness of audio file being played. And it should be rotating based on a BPM that i will send when the music for the film is done. so i can time the rotation responding to the beat of the music. i have done most of the work by far. All that's left is testing the current animation and done. But i have a couple issues i need help with. I work organised. I have subsections for each patcher. The objects that are connected together are grouped together visually. cables are tidy and easy to track so this should not take long. Im looking for anyone who is really good at all 3 (max/msp/jitter) to help me perfect it. I can pay for your time no worries as long as we get this fuckin thing working fast!!! :D 

right now specifically it is not scaling according to sound. and it is not rotating. the rotation speed converter subpatcher will not output the value im sending it. I have tried messagebox, int, float and value. Another problem is i only have max 7. So this patch HAS to work for Max 7!!

 For more information on the few VERY specific issues please either comment here or send me a message. I'm in urgent need of help and AGAIN can and WILL pay for your time. It should not take longer than a 1 hour google meet chat to show you the problems and you can help me figure out how to solve this shit. THANKS A LOT if you have read this far and have a good one!!!

Hello, i made a thing which is at the heart of all my years of 'click-pop' removal explorations on these forums, and the understanding of which was most solidified when i coded the 1st version of the karma~ object for Rodrigo Constanzo. 

It is a simple 'raised-cosine' ramp for the smoothest, yet catch-all fade-in/fade-out click-pop removal, i've ever found. Now i've rebuilt it in gen~... perhaps not the most efficient mechanism of its kind, feel free to iterate and post your version here, but it is working well for me for every single place i need it.

This is just a demonstration patch, utilizing it in weird ways not originally intended(using it this way demonstrates how the raised-cosine fade is related to lopass filtering, especially in sound), while still demonstrating the sample-rate reactivity and quickness of it, hope it can be useful, or at least entertaining:

Someone said in an interview that they found the forum most useful when people didn't post whole patches but design patterns so here's my contribution. I'm stuck in the past and still think step sequencers are kind of cool and matrixctrl is one of my favourite ways of creating them (remember a matrixctrl will interpolate with pattr while a coll or seq~ won't - this is where the fun is).

Sometimes you've created something funky but the downbeat isn't in the right place so you need to rotate the pattern. This is how I do it, it's got my favourite object that I think beginners overlook the power of when designing algorithms, 'grab'. That and a bit of list processing.

I'm trying to input London weather data into max msp however I'm really stuck on how to do this - I keep getting error messages. I have followed other peoples methods from previous forums and I'm using OpenWeatherMap to source the information. I basically just want numbers that correspond to the weather e.g temp rain wind etc so that I can the use those for effects. I've attached a patch and would be really grateful if someone was to look and suggest where I'm going wrong - maybe you know of a better source for the weather?

Im currently trying to create a subtractive synthesiser, i am working on the oscillators at the moment and i hvae created a waveform selector that works fine. Im now trying to replicate an octave range selector and pitch shifter similar to that of most subtractive synths but specifically based on U-he Divas triple VCO oscillator.

This time it only took me a couple of hours to convert a polyphonic design into a multiphonic one. This tutorial describes how any number of voices can play different sounds set from any number of channels, with different parameters for each channel. I'll be describing how I'm running 16 MIDI channels with 128 parameters each on any of 32 poly~ voices, but the same technique generalizes to MC.gen~ with any number of voices and any number of parameters, within any available computational limitations. Also this tutorial contains a multiphonic voice allocator patch for MIDI and kslider notes.

While the technique is easy, this is an advanced tutorial that requires at least some acquaintance with Max buffers, pattrstorage, zl objects, gen codebox, Max polyphony, and javascript.

If you're wanting multiphony, really gen~ is the best option. It can do everything the msp~ audio processing objects can, and it is much faster. So first I got a polyphonic design working in a poly~ object in gen~., with all its params stored in pattrstorage.

That meant setting scripting names for all the panel controls, and using the same names for params in gen~, which was the majority of the effort. Using the same monicker for panel obects' scripting names and gen~ Params means for example you can send pattrstorage a 'dump' command and wire its output into gen~ to set Param values.

When I started on the naming thing, I didn't realize how much difference it would really make. Now I can use the same list of param names for javascript panel control, buffer peek/pokes, and midi i/o too. So it was worth the effort.

To convert the polyphonic design to multiphony, first I created a buffer~ called 'programs' with 16 channels, and one sample for each param value, as below. When the patch is closed, the freebang message saves the buffer's state, which is then loaded again when the patch is reopened. This snip also shows how I measure for CPU peaks. When the CPU peak is over 90%, I reduce the number of playing channels automatically.
