I am using a time-code display (metro + transport) with an external monitor to avoid the need for a click-track in a piece of mine. The output from the transport object is sent to a group of ints (bar number, beat, etc.) which update on each change, allowing the performers to follow along visually. Among other things, I use a panel covering the whole screen which should flash on every new measure. The problem is that, although the CPU is only running at around 20%, there is a huge lag on the elements of the time-code updating on the display, most notably when changing the bgcolor of the panel object (which seems to occur almost randomly). Everything else that is dependent upon the time-code for triggering is working fine... This led me to conclude that these types of display update messages are, by default, treated as low priority by Max. I can understand that in most cases, this would be a good idea, but given that I am using a time-code which has to be very precisely in time, I was wondering if anyone knew how to make this kind of process high priority? (...assuming that this is the cause of the problem.) I have searched for answers on here and elsewhere on the internet but to no avail. Help very much appreciated.

after five years of hardware just (using a DAW just for recording and editing) I'm getting back to using a laptop to do my live processing. 

I need to have the standalone version of Max, while a standard version of Live would be enough.

My question is: will I be able to load M4L patches (devices?) without specifically purchasing the Live Suite version?

I have an abstraction that contains some audio objects.

The abstraction is placed in a locked patcher and fully loaded. The abstraction patcher itself is locked too. There is no patch editing going on whatsoever. I am not adding nor removing any objects. 

I simply want to double click the abstraction during a performance to open it in the presentation mode in an always-on-top window, control some parameters and then close the window again.

Whenever I open the abstraction window or close it, the audio drops out.

This can't be a normal state of things in Max MSP, I hope. 

How can I keep my GUI based on abstraction pop up windows without audio drop outs?

Please help. Opening an abstraction window or changing the window size causes audio drop out.

Meditative_Frequency_Synth.maxpat

I’m sharing a Max / Max for Live patch developed as an ambient and non-tempo-based frequency synthesizer.

The instrument is designed to generate sustained drones and slowly evolving textures without relying on Ableton Live’s global BPM. The sound engine is based on multiple sine wave oscillators tuned to fixed frequencies, selected through research into frequencies commonly associated with meditative and physiological effects.

The patch allows the user to switch between different frequency sources, shape amplitude over time using an ADSR envelope, and modify the harmonic content through waveshaping and soft saturation. A metro-based system is used to trigger slow transitions rather than rhythmic patterns.

This device was created as part of a collaborative academic project and used directly in a composition. It is intended for ambient music, sound installations, and experimental listening contexts.

I’m sharing both the .maxpat (for full patch access) and the .amxd (for Ableton Live users).

Any feedback, suggestions, or questions are very welcome.

I'm really confused: I patched a kick synth which is in a sub patcher. If I trigger it with a bang, it sounds really nice. But if it's triggered by the output of edge~ (which to my understanding is just a bang?) it's sounds really different. The attack of each kick is different, it has this phasey, clicky quality kind of like a free running osc. My first guess was that multiple bangs come in quick succession. I know that's not the case, but this is a bit what it sounds like.

Now the  reason I'm using edge~ here is because I wanted to do some sequencing with signal objects, like a subdiv~ going into a what~ which is then converted by edge~ into a bang. 

To make things even weirder: It only happens with my kick synth. But I'm stuck looking for a problem with this synth, as it works perfectly fine unless I trigger it with edge~. Therefore I won't go into details with this kick synth to avoid making this post unnecessarily long.

I searched the forum before posting this, but all threads regarding edge~ problems referred to edge~ catching the start of a phasor cycle. I appreciate any kind of help or suggestion. 

Is the output of edge~ somehow different to a bang? The attack of my kick sounds weird...
