How would you store an undefined number of values, or lists in a Live Set ?

For example, if you want to create a device to save/recall "snapshots" for any Live device. Let's say a "snapshot" would be a list of id+value pairs. 

I know how to store presets with the pattr system, but my understanding is it works with a predefined number of UI elements. What am I missing ?

Most new native Live devices come with some UI elements in their device header. These are used for titles, toggles or tabs etc. One example is Meld with several UI elements in its header.

Hey, Im trying to set the latency dynamically (not here, just isolating the problem) and I'm getting "Cannot set latency, device not ready. Use live.thisdevice to determine when ready." although I'm already using that to trigger the message. I've tried to delay for a few milliseconds and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any idea for a more robust solution? Thanks!

I'm trying to implement a saving and recalling presets functionality using dict and js. To access an object within a subpatcher with a unique name ("---object", for example), I am using this code:

This works fine until I try to use it after freezing the patcher, where I start to get error messages saying that the object is null. I assume this is related to unique names being assigned with additional characters after freezing? Or am I missing something?

Just to reference the structure of the patch - both dict and js code are located and called in the main patcher, and the objects (with unique names) I'm trying to access are located in the subpatcher (with a unique name as well).

I recently started to experiment with M4L (which is part of my Ableton Live Suite). In addition to all the VST instruments, I have a real Roland JV-1010 that is controlled as an external instrument via a M4L device that I got from Matthew B on the gumroad website (Roland JV-1010 Controller (for Ableton M4L) 2.0).

This device allows to set all the JV-1010 settings via midi messages (which is great). However, the main control (the Category/Bank selector) does not allow automation / mapping knobs on my keyboard to that control.

Now, digging into the M4L code, this control was/is implemented as a jsui object, more specific, as a jsui 360 dial, with “parameter_mappable” grayed out. Reading through the various articles on js, jsui and parameter mapping, I found that this is because the “type” is set to “blob”, and blob does not allow mapping. So, I changed the type from "blob" to "float", changed the parameter visibility to "Automated and Stored", and made sure that all the js methods are implemented (setvalueof(v), getvalueof()).

Now comes the part that I cannot figure out... When I save these changes using Max's "File/Save", and then lock and freeze the device to test it, the mapping just works fine - I can map the 360 dial to my keyboard, perfectly working. But when I close the Max window, all the changes are lost, the mapping capability is gone. When reopening the Max window, I can see that the type reverted back to "blob"...

What am I doing wrong, or is there a reason that the jsui object is only allowed to be a blob type?

I'm trying to figure out how to loop a sequence of samples (Round Robin) playing a single MIDI drum pad repeatedly.

I also need to be able to reset the sequence via another Drum Pad (MIDI mapped) so next time I hit the other pad the sequence starts on the first sample again.

So far, I found 3 different methods of achieving that effect (almost) in Ableton:

Problem: none of these methods allow to reset the sequence via MIDI mapping.

Unfortunately I don't know Max4Live, to fix this myself.

Maybe  someone here  can help me achieve the desired effect :)

I'd like to get the currently playing clip name. I have no problem getting the name of a session clip, but I want to keep track of the currently playing clip, either in session or in arrangement.

The only way I see for now to get the clip currently playing in arrangement would be to get all arrangement clip ids, get the current transport time, and check for all of them if the current time fits into the starting and end points. That can't be that twisted, can it ?

I am getting over 300% CPU usage in Live when using a simple MIDI processing patch inside a 32 voice poly~.

What's puzzling is that the device runs perfectly when in preview mode but causes CPU overload in the normal device mode inside Live.

I would assume both preview mode and the device mode will consume a similar amount of resources.

Also please note that I have multicore settings disabled for the poly~ object so this factor should have no effect whatsoever.

I process no audio with the patch, just midi.
