IANNIX is a graphical free software sequencer, based on the work of Iannis Xenakis, that is programmable with javascript, speaks OSC, and is available for multiple platforms.  Max users probably already know it; if not the current software than the original stuff from Xenakis.  The new release this month looks pretty spiffy and has been getting some attention in the media art blog-o-sphere.  It is versatile, conducive to mixed modality interaction, very discursive (in a good way), and historically very interesting.

The following video by (a-z)² describes an interactive installation using IanniX, KorgNano, and MaxMSP.

Interactive installation is made using IanniX (http://www.iannix.org) + KorgNano. KorgNano drives the morphings of curves and IanniX's cursors send their position through OpenSoundControl (OSC) to MaxMSP. 
 
Sound is made using some noise generators (Gendys, dusts, crackles, bank of sinusoidal oscillators) ; cursors position (x and y coordinates) are mapped on two parameters of each generator (x is sound projection — like panning — and y is the main parameter of the generetor).

This project interacts with Max because of native OSC-link in our software. We also provide an example of additive synthesis with Max in our patches examples.

IanniX is a graphical standalone open-source sequencer, based on Iannis Xenakis works, for digital art. IanniX syncs via Open Sound Control (OSC) events and curves to your real-time environment, for example MaxMSP/Jitter.
