Hi! I've successfully managed to recreate pitch movement in a delay by changing the write and read index position. In hindsight my issue with this is that after the delay time has reached it's target, all pitching goes back to normal, because now the difference between read and write index is constant again and there is no more doppler effect. The only way to combat this is having a really long smoothing time between tempo changes but it seems inelegant.

I'm looking to fully recreate the effect of a slowed down tape:

When I change the delay time, the whole 'tape' changes tempo and all previously recorded sounds are staying pitched forever, only newly recorded sounds are at the 'correct' pitch. As I understand it, for this model, the read and write heads (index position) stay constant, and the delay time is only effected by the speed of the tape.

My thought process was therefore to keep the index positions at a constant difference, and only change the rate of the phasor writing and reading the data buffer.

I've found an amazing forum post that tackles the exact questionI have. I tried to implement everything but I failed to do so correctly. Maybe somebody with more gen/max knowledge would know of a better way to convert this explanation into gen.

Hello, I am relatively new to Max and am working on a new project I would like to use Max in. I am creating sequences to be sent out via MIDI to hardware and want to create a system where there are random numbers tuned to a scale (which I have a patch built for already) that then create a sequence of 4-8 notes that can be repeated until a message is sent. I would like to then slowly swap out each note of the sequence with another that is generated in turn and over time the whole sequence would change.  Not sure where to start on the storing of sequences and the swapping of the notes.

I'm trying to figure out the exact syntax to send a "normalize" message to a polybuffer~ that I've created in javascript.

Based on this bit in the polybuffer/js help patcher:

Sending the message "0 normalize 0.1" to the above acts as expected.

 eval("pb.send" + "(0, "normalize", 0.1)" );

This returns an error: js:Javascript SyntaxError: missing ) after argument list

(which is over my head, as the parentheses seem in order)

I've been fighting with a seemingly easy problem for the last hours and finally found kind of a workaround, but i wanted to know if there is an easier way to do this because i can't imagine there's no other way.

So basically I'm receiving a message that looks like "generator[0]" from a js, and only the number within the brackets changes. To use the integer i want to separate it from the rest, but all the normal list and pack operators didn't seem to work because it is not divided by any spacebars. Is there an easy way to extract the integer value out of this message or split it up to get only the number in brackets?

I'm trying to recreate an ondes martenot. I've created a midi controller using some Arduinos, and they're sending the right data into max msp so I know that's not the issue.

Unfortunately, sometimes the audio that comes out of max crackles a lot and it sounds very bad. I've tried speakers and headphones, same issue on both. I attach the max patch (which I admit isn't entirely original, the sound generation part I found online, but the part that calculates pitchbends, trills etc. is mine). I would appreciate any help.

This is an idea to develop and I wonder how to implement this.

I have data from two users touching and moving hand on sensor. 

In this patch I have a default range of 30 that only if users are inside that range a sound is playing.

I would like to make the range adaptable based on some conditions.

user can choose time windows to look at and increment/decrement  steps 

time window set to 2 sec - increment/decrement step set to 3.

if user are within range  in the 2 sec window, another 2 sec window start - if they pass the second window then range is reduced to 27. if they continue to hold together inside the range for another 2 second and another 2 second - range is reduced by another 3. if not (users went out of range) then range is increased by 3.   

so in order to reduced range user should manage to be inside 2x window time while to increase range used should be out of window only for 1 window time.

This is an idea to develop and I wonder how to implement this.
