I know it gets brought up every once in a while, but I thought I'd post again to see what the interest was out there for getting Max working in Linux.

I jump between Mac, Winows, and Linux (Ubunutu) fairly regularly as no single OS can do everything I need under one roof. I teach at a university in physics and recording arts where I use Max, Wavelab, Nuendo, and Live extensively for demonstrations and PowerPoint/Keynote for presenting. I also run a recording/mastering/post studio where I again use Nuendo & Wavelab. But I also run an acoustic R&D company where I use Solidworks, QCAD, and a few other drawing/modeling tools. And lastly I head up an interdisciplinary research collective that mostly uses Max, but also vvvv, Processing, TouchDesigner, Quartz Composer, etc.

But I'm finding that I prefer Linux above Windows and Mac more and more for the sheer speed, customization, and adaptability even though it's by far the least supported for applications which really bums me out. While I'm a big supporter of open source I'm also happy to pay for good commercial software like Max. i just wish Max, and a few others, would run on Linux.

Max is one of the biggest hangups for me to not spend almost all of my time in Linux. PD is a great program, no doubt, but I rely on a lot of the awesome and amazing externals out there and the great Max community (along with a number of other reasons). Even getting Max to run under Wine would be OK, though native support would be much more preferable. But the iLok stuff only works on Mac/Win, even though I use the software key/internet activation.

So I'm interested if there's any other folks out there in the same boat as myself. I know Linux support is a low priority for most commercial companies that are trying squash bugs and be innovative, but I feel like Ubuntu and other flavors are on the rise and have some very cool potential in the multimedia realm (but that could also be just because I've been getting more into it personally). If there's enough of us requesting maybe we could see a Linux release in the future! Anyone else interested in seeing this happen?

hi, I'm trying to count past 0.9999... with phasor (actually with groove~'s second output). I want to count iterations.  so when the loop is at it's end, it goes from eg 0.999... to 1.000..., rather than 0.000...  and I'm controlling other audio processes, so I want to do it all with tilde objects.

I found a solution but I'm surprised how many objects it takes.I think this will work, but I'm really curious: Anyone have a simpler way? (the bangs at bottom were just to check that nothing weird happens at the loop point)

Hi, I have some RPis running RNBO inside some sculptures and they (the Pis) haven't been updated for a while. I was going to switch out the soundscape anyway,  and figured while I'm SSH-ing in I might as well update everything. BUT...there is no internet access on-site. I can establish a wifi LAN connection to the Pis from my laptop to SSH but in order to update packages do I need internet (WAN) connection?

The Rpi 4B I am using does not show in the target export window. I manually added the address of the pi, but it still shows it as not connected. Wireless connection is otherwise working on the pi.

Other things I've tried to troubleshoot this issue:

Verify connection: I verified everything is correct in setup from the tutorial. Username is pi, hostname is unchanged, updated through terminal. I can SSH into the pi from my laptop and send and receive files, etc. 

Updates and installing dependencies:  I suspect it might have something to do with the way the raspberry is configured. I ran into an error for "sudo apt-get install jack_transport_link rnbo-runner-panel," which gives the error: 

"E: Unable to locate package jack_transport_link

I have used "sudo apt-get install" as well as "sudo apt update | sudo apt upgrade" and rebooted the pi. I'm at a loss. If anyone can tell me why the pi will not show up on the target window, that would be amazing. I have puzzled over this for several days.

Hi, I am trying to set the clock source of the Transport object to Ableton Link, I tried using the link.clocksource example from the Link Package but somehow the Transport object is not outputting anything. I tried starting a link.session or link.beat object, or starting Ableton and Ableton link, and nothing changes... I remember I used to be able to just start it without need to set anything up, but now it just doesn't function at all. Did I miss something, or anyone encounter the same problem as I do?

I want to create some custom Jitter externals but building the 

myself is proving to be a bit beyond me. Is there somewhere I can find a pre-compiled Jitter library for Windows (`jitter.lib`)? I found an old one, but it was for Max 5 or something like that, and I assume that's way too old. If there's something I'm missing that would make all of this a lot easier, I would love to know!

I've recently got Max 9.1.1 and I'm going through the tutorials. When I come to the mouse drawing tutorial it mentions what sounds like a useful tool: "Clue Window". The tutorial states that this can be started by selecting "Clue Window" from the "Window" menu. However, when I look at the Window menu at the top of the patcher there is no entry titled "Clue Window"! Has this either been removed or moved to somewhere else in version 9.1.1? Note that I've tried this on both a Windows 11 PC and a MacOS 15 laptop and can not find it on either.

I created a step sequencer in RNBO using an Akai Fire midi controller as input device. The RNBO patch sends out the sequenced notes along with some sysex to control the LEDs of the midi controller. When I send the sysex out of max just from the bare RNBO patch, everything works great. But when I export it as a VST and load it in Reaper I can't get any sysex from the plugin.

I then dug some deeper and read in the Juice forum that sending sysex from a VST3 is broken. (in 

). They are saying that the “begin SysEx” byte (xF0) and the “end SysEx” byte (xF7) are not sent out. It is also said (as far as I understand) that sending those bytes twice might help. So I played around with that option and made a little tester patch to send sysex messages in different ways and also sending bytes one by one manually (attached patch).

The only thing I can get from the plugin this way is a sysex message that consists only of the F0 byte. Which led me to 

 reporting that sysex strings from RNBO patches on a raspberry pi can't be longer than three bytes. Not sure if it's the same issue, but looks a bit similar.

Also seems that when using the [sysexout] object even that single byte message isn't sent (in the Plugin, from the Max patch again it works).

I'm a bit at my wit's end. hope somebody can give me the right hint to solve this. Thanks!
