This is a dumb question that I should know by now, but how do I make argument or attribute values accessible from outside an object so that they can be changed dynamically with values from elsewhere in the patch? In other words, if there's a number value or symbol that can't remain static, but must change while operating the patch, how can they be changed with a separate input on that object or by using a message object?

For example, if there is an application where I have a buffer~ object, but I need to change the number of channels, @filetype, and @samps on the fly without editing the object each time, how can this be done?

In the attached image, I'm trying to use the face bounds being generated from the cv.jit.faces object to manipulate the viewport of a jit.gl.camera object. How can this be done?

For some reason I cant get my bare conductive board to communicate with Max. I have followed all of the directions to a T. The Data stream seems to be working fine with my touch board and Max recognizes the port, however, when I select the port I am not receiving any data from the data stream. Any Ideas?

Just to confirm can you see the DataStream output in the serial monitor as in step 2 of the tutorial? If you can see that (which it sounds like you can) then you are part of the way there. 

Next, make sure that the max patch and the arduino sketch are closed. Unplug and plug the Touch Board back in and open up the max patch. Now try selecting the serial port. If it is not obvious which one the Touch Board is, just try each. Make sure to wait a few seconds before selecting the next one. If this doesn't work we can dig a bit more into the patch to see what is going on.

Problems with communication between bare conductive touch board and Max

I am creating a patch for live performing with a video. I have a click track routed to me (dac 3)and the output of the movie going to audience (dac 1/2). 

Though the audio track I created the movie with is exactly synced with the click track normally. When I play the movie file.  This movie plays at a slightly faster rate so my click and output are not synced. (I am playing the movie from jit.movie~ and the audio from playlist~)

I have tried changing the rate of jitter but cannot get it to sync. Only to be slightly faster or slightly slower than the click  

Why is jitter playing my movie at a faster rate and is there a way to get these to sync?

I have phaser->what->edge-> to bang out midiclock tick to midi out but it is just all over the place...

when I max everything in audio settings and turn everything off on mac it still wobbles +-1 bpm constantly...

well the goal is to push slight variations in tempo through phasor but it seems max is doing it for me as a default :-)

Hi, first time posting. I have decided to learn Max and the best way I know how to do it is to make a kick in an unorthodox (or rather the most orthodox) way. In the patch you can see that I'm trying to do the 909 kick with filters (as it was initially designed in the analogue world). The basic principle is you send an impulse into a resonant HP filter.  The cutoff/centre frequency gives you the pitch and the Q amount gives the decay. To keep the sync and set the envelope I am using phasor~ into ramp~ into shape~ into scale~. This gives me a smooth curve of values that send signal to filtercoeff~ "frequency" and do their magic for the biquad~. 

The problem is still somewhere around ramp/shape/scale (most likely the scale~) as I see that the peak values are different. When the sound is on you can hear the peak pitch go in a cycle (sin) rising several hits in a row and then lowering. What could be the reason for that?

It is unlikely to be biquad~ as this happens with all filters (svf, live, etc) although for sure I need to learn filter design in order to use one biquad~ instead of five as I'm doing right now. But that is for the next improvements.

Edit. After googling more about self oscillating filters I see that it is the filters' problem as they don't get enough energy, or there is a very sweet spot for Q I need to find to get it to oscillate on a consistent basis. Compression and overdrive should also help. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed this little panic moment I had.

So, I'm a little confused here. I'm currently bulding a Max for Live device but I was building it in normal Max as a project until recently. Then I had to export it as a amxd because I started working with live.object stuff. 

Well, the problem that now has occured is, that I don't really understand where Max/Live saves my subpatchers and scritps and stuff. 

The problem is that I have a JS file that includes another JS file (where a class is located) and I don't know how to access these files now. The inspector only tells me the blank file name without the path and when I edit the original file (the one I used in the original Max project), obviously nothing changes as this isn't the linked file anymore. 

So, I guess there is surely a best practice for this but I just can't find anything on the web that helps me here. Hope anyone can help me with this.

Hi all, is there a method to hotswap/add a sample to a simpler device? 

I’ve written a JS function to locate and get the path of a simpler device on a track, but can’t find a method to drop a sample into the device using the files path in the LOM.

I see that there is a file_path property for a sample in a simpler device in the LOM, but this property is read only.

Does such a method exist to update/swap the sample file in a simpler or to do the action of dropping a sample file onto a midi track or drum pad?
