I'm a new Max user coming from the Cubase/Reaktor world. I'm starting to grasp the basics a little bit with building in Max For Live - I'm still very new with it. I was finally able to get a simple 3 oscillator mono synth going for my own projects. 

In Reaktor there's several different kinds of Filters that are very well done - like the ladder filter and pro-52 filter. I have noticed in BEAP these kinds of filters are in there but I'm not really interested in a BEAP synthesizer.

My question - Is there a good Moog/Ladder filter out there for core MAX MSP? I don't have the brains to program it myself. I've tried out the default lores and svf filters and they don't sound quite like the way I expected.

I have also sorted through the forums history and it does not appear to be very much information, and the ladder filters posted in the past seems to have been removed.

Beginner here. How can I scale and set a "midpoint"? 

Let's say I'm using 0–1 float as my input, where naturally the midpoint would be .50. How can I  designate a midpoint of .20

Most importantly, the issue I'm running into is that I want the 'curve' to be completely linear, so really no curve at all.

I'm finding that using the scale object with exponential values or the linedrive object creates a curve.

I'm trying to create a subpatch which has an input bang and then which (after other things) display a random number. The "simple" random thing is not enough so thats why the subpatch just for clarification, but thats not really the topic.

How can I use arguments/attributes/etc to set a number from outside of the subpatch?

The problem is, that I can set this number as an inlet, but I get too many inlets in my main patch... Ideally it would be an attribute parameter in the inspector or something like that, but so far I was not lucky.

Tried using $1 or #1 kind of things but I don't get how they're supposed to work.

I've just started learning MAX for Live and I'm following tutorials from someone on MAX MSP. I'm still not sure 100% how to translate patches into Max For Live from MAX MSP, and this is an example of such a problem. In the tutorial, the person makes this simple patch (on the left - noteout), and drags her mouse across the keyslider resulting in generic grand piano sounds. This didn't work for me in Max For Live using noteout, so I looked around and tried experimenting with midiout (the stuff on the right). However, I was unable to get any sound. I tried connecting to plugout which I understand is the only way to get audio out of Max for Live, but I don't know how one goes from makenote to plugout (I got an error-plugout doesn't recognize int). Also, I tried doing this both on a Max Instrument and Max Audio Effect template but still to no avail.

I'm surprised that I haven't been able to find a Serum-like  'FM-from-B'   m4l device out there, in which the frequency of an audio signal can be mapped to parameters in Live similarly to the Envelope Follower device.  I've fooled around with retune~ and it is providing me with reasonable frequency data, ...

BUT: I can't figure out how to convert that data into useable input for the  Abl. MultiMap  patcher.    The output of the mapping seems binary even after I used the scale object (input 0-20,000; output 0-1.) and regardless of the min / max settings in the device's UI.

A few months ago I started to get into max msp in order to build a simple vst host, without too much plugin overload... the truth is that so far it has been working well, so I would like to add more features...

The reason for my inquiry is if you know of alternative techniques to obtain the factory presets of the vst plugins. I clarify that I have already done it with the vst~ object but it does not work with all plugins. For example, it works with the discodsp plugins but not with the spectrasonics plugins... 

I am developing all this in a Microsoft Windows environment...

Is there a way to filter the list according to wildcards. I'm looking for something I can give an argument like "sym*" and get all the list items that begin with "sym," while excluding all the ones that don't begin with those three characters.

Sprintf can combine components into a single symbol. I'm looking for something that can analyze components of a single symbol and output accordingly.

all the zl stuff appears to operate at the granularity of the symbol itself. It looks like [zl compare] and [zl filter] require an exact match of the symbol. I want to use those functions on part of the symbol.

I suppose I could do it using js. But i was curious if Max offered anything natively that can do this.

Playing [regex] now.  I see that I can output the part of the symbol that matches the expression I give, but I don't see how I can output the WHOLE symbol if part of it matches the expression.

I guess I need to use the third Outlet to drive some sort of gating mechanism that determines whether the original string continues on in the flow?  Or is there some simpler way to do it with just [regex]?
