I am using Max to open Live Sets using the message "; max launchbrowser".

It works fine on my computer but on someone else's the following error is displayed on the console (of course he uses a different path than mine, a path that is directly imported from his computer using dropfile) :

I can recreate this error by inserting a wrong path after launchbrowser on my computer. So it appears to be a wrong path issue.

Does anyone have more information on this err = -43 or on the subject ?

Hey all, looking for help on the question of producing MPE from my M4L device for consumption by Ableton 12's purportedly MPE-supporting instrument, 

Trivial setup:  create a new M4L MIDI device,  copy the example network from mpeformat object's help. into a blank device.  Now add the device into an Ableton MIDI track:  mydevice -> MIDI Monitor -> Sampler (any preset).  

example buttons produces two notes with independent control over volume and aftertouch. Examination of the Midi Monitor in Flow mode shows that the CC data is "normalized" to use the global MIDI channel.  IE: it preserves the channel for note on/off but resets the channel on the volume and aftertouch CCs.   I spent time with ChatGPT and Gemini and this problem/feature of 

 appears to be well known?  It appears that there exist longstanding inference rules in Ableton to discriminate legit MPE sources from bogus ones.  One might imagine that 

would embody the secret sauce, but unless I'm missing something it does not.

With Ableton 12's built-in MPE instruments the priority of this issue increases, I think.

Anyone have pointers or suggestions?   Thanks!

I just installed the Max 8.6.0 upgrade + RNBO, from Max 7, and I have this issue at startup. Even before Max window showing, I get this error message more than once:

I only see the ability to specify notes with a velocity expression.  All notes live within a "notes" array and it seems to me there's gotta be a separate "cc" array to express such things as pitch bend, slide, etc.   I can't find reference docs for the contents of the dict passed in and out of live.miditool.[in/out].

tl;dr: I have a jweb object in my patcher with a custom UI implemented as a webpage, but it's unusable since keypresses get passed through to Live, so for instance if you hit spacebar, it does input a spacebar in the jweb page's textarea, but it also sends play/pause through to Live.

Is there a setting or a workaround to make this work?

Interestingly, if you set jweb render mode to "onscreen", every single keypress is passed to both the patcher and Live (i.e. pressing "a" inputs an "a" in the jweb page but also toggles Automation Mode in Live), but if you set jweb render mode to "offscreen", most keypresses are 

 passed through to Live, but spacebar is. In all cases, command shortcuts are intercepted and don't work in the jweb page (i.e. you can't press cmd+c to copy in the jweb page, nothing happens).

I've tried using JS to capture keypress events and do preventDefault and stopPropagation, but that doesn't help.

This happens in patcher popouts too, and I've tried various window flags like float, but it doesn't help.

If you open the patcher in the Max editor, it works as expected: jweb captures all keypresses and shortcuts and they're not passed through to Live.

Textedit objects of course work as expected.

This problem only happens on Mac, works fine on Windows.

First off—huge thanks to Elphnt for the amazing Max for Live wrapper tutorial! It’s been incredibly helpful as I’ve been building custom wrappers for my VST3 plugins.

That said, I’ve hit a snag when trying to make these wrappers portable between my 

 machines. Specifically, I’m loading a plugin using [plug_vst3 <plugin-name>], and everything works perfectly on the system where I created the patch. But when I open the same Max for Live device on the other platform, the plugin doesn’t load.

I tried debugging by comparing my wrapper to Elphnt’s 

, which interestingly works cross-platform without any issues. I copied the initialization setup from that wrapper but it didn’t solve the problem in my case.

To further rule out plugin-specific issues, I tested with the 

(thats the same one he made the tutorial with), installed to standard paths on both Mac and Windows—and I still see the same issue.

It seems like the plugin reference or path embedded in [plug_vst3] doesn’t remain valid when switching operating systems, unless re-initialized manually by clicking on the object. I’m guessing the issue may be related to platform-specific file paths or internal plugin IDs that don’t map properly between systems.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there a best practice for making sure VST3 plug-ins inside Max wrappers remain valid and loadable across platforms?

Hello! Lately I used a stacking looper patch (from Andrew Robinson's video) to add an extension to it. Techically I want the loop's buffer size to be calculated via note values and tempo and I've pretty much created an algorithm that works pretty well. The only problem remaining is that the buffer size will reset every time the counter sends an output, therefore the recording that follows after the latest output will be the only thing saved as the buffer's  content. Is there a way to send the counter's final message result after the recording? Or should I use a different object than counter? My thoughts so far would be that I need to stop the counter from sending a message while the recording is on, and then when the recording goes off then the counter's final message will then be sent and calculated for the final buffer size. It'd be very helpful to open the patch since everything is pretty complicated! Thank you!

After using Max for over 10 years, I'm writing in the forum for the first time, because I have a big error.

For my long-term project - a MIDI looper - I bought a new device. The Yamaha Finger Drum Pad FGDP-50 which I really enjoy.

Here is my problem: The „midiin“ object swallows notes that were definitely sent. Sometimes a NOTE ON is missing and sometimes a NOTE OFF. This doesn't happen in the MIDI Monitor app or in Ableton live. No data is missing there! So the device ist working correctly but Max/Msp makes troubles. The same mistake happens with xmidiin, notein, xnotein. I never had a problem with other midi master keyboards.

I've tried a lot of things. I've tried it with the latest Max version and with a older Version. I've tried it with and without overdrive. I am working on a mac.

Could this be a „midiin“ bug? Is there another midi in object? Is there a workaround without „midiin“?
