Similar to a previous thread: I was unable to do RNBO work because max suddenly refused to edit, create or open RNBO.

The console error was "Could not connect to RNBO buildserver" and several other errors including "Unable to get gRPC URI and WebSocket port from codegen server". After a day of frustration investigating network, firewalls, packet captures etc, I tried repair and reinstall, which didn't fix the issue. 

Then I deleted (Username)/AppData/Roaming/Cycling '74

This fixed the problem (so far!).  As detailed earlier by NUMB_CHANNELS in the thread

I hadn't had any crashes or issues or software updates, so I don't know how anything got corrupted in the Cycling '74 files. 

I hope this will help others who run into the issue.

I encountered a strange issue. A short sound coming in from the adc~, going through a delay pattern using several tapin~/tapout~, should trigger switching the output channel every time the input raises above a certain threshold. Not a big deal, but currently (Max 9.1.4 on MacOS 15.7.3), it gets stuck in an endless loop. I'm sure I've done it before without problems.

This is from a larger patch in which a hit on a microphone should trigger a jump to a random speaker in a multichannel environment. I attached a reduced version, that includes also a few findings from troubleshooting in the comments. 

Or why don't I post the comments here anyway, maybe that's a known thing:

1. this test patch should simply play a rhythm upon start of the sfplay~, and with each hit of the vibes coming out from the tapout~ it should switch between channels. But most of the time it gets stuck in an endless loop (sometimes it stops, but most of the time it does not).

2. When that happens, there is no audio coming in into the peakamp~, but a flat value on at least one tapout~ (as you can see in the meter~). Sometimes there are values coming out from more than one tapout~

3. Severing any of the patchcords in the peakamp~ section stops the loop.

4. Moving the delay into gen~ works fine, as does replacing the set message with a gate~ object

5. Changing the vector size to something shorter also shortens the length of the looped sound

Just recently I updated to Tahoe on my Macbook Pro M1 and now Max is super laggy. Ever other few object I want to place makes the software hang for a few seconds before going on. I cannot use it. Help patches open up super slow etc. etc. 

I didn't have issues before. I updated Max too after the macos update. Anyone having similar experiences or suggestions?

I am a university student in need of some programming assistance. I am creating a Maxmsp software where real-time heartbeat is used to control the volume of music tracks in a song. I’m looking at getting some assistance with connecting the heart rate monitor to the Max8 program. I am using a Polar H7 Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor, which I have already been able to pair to my Windows PC. I have already worked out the audio parts of the program, I just need a way to connect, record and display the heart rate in Max8 in real time. I put together a starter template for building Max externals with CMake.

It's a plain object box that adds two numbers. The object itself doesn't matter; it's there so the package is complete and buildable rather than a fragment. What you get is a CMake build that produces a universal binary and ad-hoc signs it, max-sdk-base wired up as a submodule so a --recursive clone builds immediately, the full package layout including a help patch and a reference page, and comments through the source explaining the non-obvious SDK calls.

The logic sits in a separate file that contains no Max code, with the object file handling only the Max side. Replacing that one file is most of what making your own object involves.

BUILD.md is probably the more useful part. It documents seven SDK behaviors that produce misleading symptoms rather than errors — three of them surface as no such object from completely unrelated causes, and one produces an Intel-only binary while still reporting a successful build. Each entry gives the symptom alongside the cause, since the symptom is what you'll have in front of you.

Verified on macOS, Apple Silicon. Windows is untested — nothing in it is deliberately mac-only, but I haven't built it there. :-)

Playing around with radiogroup, I noticed that if you click around the very bottom edge of the object, it selects the next, invisible item. So for example if there are only 2 items, it selects item 3, which you can see if you re-size the object to 3. It's also reflected in the output. This happens in both button and check box modes.
