So I wanted to work on a RNBO project but Max caused a timeout and after several minutes I eventually got an error message; buildserver failed to start. At first I blamed the fact that my installation is heavily customized (the program folder is even located in \program files\Ableton\Max 8) so I figured I'd do a full clean sweep.

I deinstalled Max, moved all config files out of the way (in %appdata%\Cycling '74), moved the default projects folder out of the way and then re-installed Max. At this stage RNBO works as expected again but I haven't even authorized Max yet, all default settings.

Yet the moment I upgrade the RNBO package to 1.3.0 I'm met with errors again, which I've attached, it times out and that's the end of that.

Considering the fact that everything is using default settings, and that RNBO works before the upgrade I can't help wonder if I'm hit with a bug of some sort?

Hello, I'm sending visuals from touch designer via spout to access them in Max. I'm using jit.gl.spoutreceiver and sending that from a jit.pworld into some matrix objects to sonify the original texture. It works when I do one jit.

 and matrix, but when I add a second instance for another spout stream, it won't convert, even though I can see the texture being rendered in the jit.pworld. 

I thought it could be an issue with the naming of the matrix and world objects but that doesn't seem to be working. 

I'm not super experienced with jitter so not sure if I'm missing something obvious, or whether it's an issue with having  multiple spout streams. 

Any tips in the right direction would be greatly appreciated :)

I have a few RNBO abstractions which use a construct like:

Which allows me to reference 'argsbuf' from codebox (which doesn't otherwise allow access to variable-named buffers, AFAIC), while also allowing the possibility of re-using the same abstraction .rnbopat file with different buffer references.

This seems to work ok generally, but in one of the more nested uses of this error and can't compile the code.

Multibuffer 'argsbuf' is defined more than once with differents buffer lists.

I also believe this error to be inaccurate, as I've audited all instances of multibuffer and they have the same buffer list (#1, which is always being resolved to the same buffer name/reference).

I've tried re-creating this error using the same abstractions in various implementations and can't seem to do it, so I feel a bit lost understanding what's going on.

Does anyone have some ideas or guidance about what I could try?  Thank you.

Just wanted to share an issue I ran into recently with Max not launching, in case it helps someone else out there.

I’m running Max 9.0.5 on macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 (Apple Silicon), and things were working totally fine until one day the application just stopped launching. It would open, hang, and never respond. I’d get the beachball, and eventually I had to force-quit. No error message, no crash popup — just a frozen Max.

 my annual Max subscription renewed. I noticed that Max asked to be reauthorised, but I wasn’t able to complete the process due to network access issues. After I closed the app, I couldn’t get it to run again. It would just hang on launch every time after that.

I went through pretty much everything you’d expect. I deleted preferences, removed all third-party externals and packages, tried launching Max from a new user account, reinstalled multiple versions of Max (both older and newer), even reinstalled macOS — all while preserving my files — but nothing worked. It felt like the app was cursed.

Eventually I took a look at the macOS crash logs and noticed that Max was getting stuck during startup on a system-level call related to network sockets. The process was basically sitting idle, waiting on a response that never came. One line stood out:

Launchd throttled processes: com.paceap.eden.licensed

That pointed me to iLok/PACE software — which I hadn’t really thought about, since I wasn’t actively using any iLok licenses. Still, something in Max (or one of its dependencies) clearly was.

So I fully uninstalled iLok and PACE from my system. There’s an uninstaller app if you have it, or you can manually remove the components from /Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/Application Support, and /Applications. Then I rebooted, reinstalled the latest version of iLok License Manager from the iLok website, rebooted again, and tried launching Max.

And it worked. No more hanging, and I was finally able to reauthorise the app.

So if Max suddenly stops launching for you — especially around the time of a subscription renewal — it might be worth checking your iLok installation. Even if you don’t think you’re using it. Reinstalling it cleanly fixed everything for me.

Hope this helps someone avoid the days of frustration I went through.

If I connect a jit.gl.cubemap to the environment inlet of the 

.material will  fully reflect the environment. Great!

Since it doesn't seem possible to directly control the reflectivity inside the 

.material object (ok to tune diffuse or specular, but nothing regarding reflectivity…),  I tried to modulate the texture coming out the jit.gl.cubemap  with a divider inside a jit.gl.pix object: it doesn't work. Texture is made black.

And connecting a simple jit.gl.texture to the output of the the jit.gl.cubemap gives a strange result too: no more environment map, but a checkerboard…

Is that a bug? How to get control over the environment reflectivity of a 3D objects?

1. Create an abstraction containing [table #1]. Saved in this example as "minimal-table-abstraction.maxpat"

2. In another patch, create a table with predefined size 1000: [table aaa @size 1000].

3. Then add an instance of that abstraction, supplying aaa as the table name.

4. In the parent patch, query the table's size. I get 128 instead of 1000.

It does not help if the abstraction consists of [loadbang] --> "refer #1" --> [table] instead of just [table #1].
