I have created what I think is the simplest possible patcher to test audio dropout problems I'm having in my system. This preloads a 500 ms sound, and then plays this in an infinite loop with a 500 ms delay added. See screenshot (I know the play 0 message doesn't do anything here).

I have now tested this on 4 different systems, and on every one this reliably produces dropouts that get worse and worse over time, to the point where after several hours it is frequently degraded beyond recognition. 

It also reliably degrades performance on one of these systems (which uses a Madiface USB output), so that even after we close Max, the computer cannot do tasks like play a short video without massive graphical artifacts, indicating a GPU crash, and stuttering. Windows reliability monitor shows error logs which mention the madiface clock failing to sync. If you leave it playing for long enough, the computer crashes, but only this computer, not the other ones we have tested. This is an extraordinarily powerful computer, and Task Manager shows no unusual CPU, GPU, or network usage (all well under 30%). 

So far as I am aware, these are two distinct issues: 1) Audio dropouts on all systems after an hour or more of playing this patcher, and 2) crippling system slowdown that only affects one system, possibly because of something to do with the Madiface.

I'm aware that audio processing is subject to dropouts and can interact in unpredictable ways with system resources, but surely the level of processing here is tiny. What am I not understanding here? What can be done to mitigate this?

I tried to compile the jit.hello example and I have a lot of interogations.

the firsts of them are the deprecated functions in the max.jit.hello.c file :

at the end the project can be succesfully compiled but when I try to use the fresh new compiled object in Max ( 8.6.5 version and 9.0.8 ) the object is not loaded....

Over the past few weeks, I've been investigating an issue that's been happening with my computer, and I've finally discovered that Max was causing it. After several hours of usage, I'd start experiencing multiple problems like fans running at full speed, audio glitches, and small freezes in keyboard and mouse input—overall, the computer would become sluggish and start to hang. Eventually, I realized that it was Max causing this: as soon as I closed the software, everything would immediately return to normal.

In the past few days, I began looking deeper into the cause, wondering if I had some heavy patch running in the background or if it was performing intensive tasks without my noticing. However, I discovered this wasn't the case. Last night, I left a very simple patch open (literally just three toggles in the middle, nothing else) and went to sleep. When I woke up, the same issues were happening again and were instantly resolved once I closed Max.

So it seems something is happening after leaving Max open for many hours—I'd say around 8 to 12 hours. Gradually, the computer begins to glitch, even if the patch is extremely simple and idle. Closing Max always resolves the issue.

I'm not sure how to further investigate this problem. I don't see any significant CPU spikes in the system monitor, but I noticed an increased CPU load on a Node.js process that starts alongside Max (even though I wasn't using anything related to Node in the patch). Could this be related?

I have a patch that read and display Midi Time Code properly working in Max 8.

This patch does not seem to work anymore in Max 9 because midiin does not seem to get MTC messages (starting with the "241" byte).

Is there a way to receive these MTC messages in Max 9 ?

I'm trying to input London weather data into max msp however I'm really stuck on how to do this - I keep getting error messages. I have followed other peoples methods from previous forums and I'm using OpenWeatherMap to source the information. I basically just want numbers that correspond to the weather e.g temp rain wind etc so that I can the use those for effects. I've attached a patch and would be really grateful if someone was to look and suggest where I'm going wrong - maybe you know of a better source for the weather?

I'm new to Max and I'm working on a patch to use motion tracking data to control synth parameters. I'm hoping to use OSC for this, so I've been testing with ZigSimPro on my iPhone to send data via UDP or TCP to my Mac. 

I'm having a very hard time getting any data to output from jit.net.recieve and udp recieve. I have seen many video tutorials on this topic, and am beginning to suspect that perhaps the port numbers I've tried (dozens) are occupied, but given how many I've tried, this seems somewhat unlikely. 

Anyone running into similar issues using M4L? Am I missing something simple? Maybe these objects just aren't the best tools for the job?
