There has been a lot of wonderful activity in the Gen domain, and we would like even more people to experience the differences between Max and Gen programming. I originally created a set of three videos developed in Max 6 for the curious absolute beginner. Using Max 7, I developed a series of text-based "Getting Started" tutorials. (These replace the first Max 6 video which was no longer useful.) The text and video tutorials introduce the gen~ environment, explain a bit of the differences between working in the Max vs. gen~ environment, and include a few simple programs to get you started. Select abstractions are a variety of small patchers that perform useful functions with varying outputs. Particularly useful for keeping a patcher tidy when many selects are being used. Also includes an object named selinfo which can be placed into a patcher and opened to remind oneself of the various functions and which one does the required task.

selinfo: Information on all other select abstractions.
sel0: Args: 1. Outputs a '0' if the input matches the argument. Outputs nothing if it does not.
sel1: Args: 1. Outputs a '1' if the input matches the argument. Outputs a '0' if it does not.
sell2: Args: 1. Outputs a '1'  if the input does not match the argument. Outputs a 0 if it does.
self3: Args: 2. Outputs the second argument if the input matches the first. Outputs a '0' if it does not.
self4: Args: 2. Outputs a '0' if the input matches the first argument. Outputs the second argument if it   	 does not.
self5: Args: 3. Outputs the second argument if the input matches the first. Outputs the third if it does 	 not.
self6: Args: 4. Outputs the second argument if the input matches the first. Outputs the fourth 	 argument 	 if the input matches the third. Outputs nothing if there is no match.

sel10: Args: 2. Outputs the second argument if the input matches the first. Outputs nothing if it does 	  not.
selgate: If the Input matches the variable, the gate will open. A different value will close. To open the 	     gate with anything but the variable, see selgate2
selgate2: If the Input does not match the variable, the gate will open. If it is the same the gate will 	       close. To open the gate with a matching variable, see selgate.

bach: automated composer's helper is a cross-platform set of patches and externals for Max, aimed to bring the richness of computer-aided composition into the real-time world.

bach provides you with two new data types: rational numbers and lllls (an acronym for Lisp-like linked lists), the latter being a list capable to contain other lllls in itself, a bit like a Lisp list. In addition to that, it includes a large collection of tools for operating upon these new types and a number of advanced facilities and graphical interfaces for musical notation, with support for microtonal accidentals of arbitrary resolution, measured and non-measured notation, polymetric notation, support for MusicXML files and much more.

bach is a completely independent project by composers Andrea Agostini and Daniele Ghisi. For this reason its main focus is on musical representation, analysis and composition. Nonetheless, the data types it provides, along with their related tools, may have a much broader area of application.

bach is distributed as freeware and is still in the alpha phase. To obtain the latest version of this software, please refer to the official website www.bachproject.net.

_derivations was programmed entirely in Max 6, and is available as a library of max abstractions and externals, as well as a standalone piece of software distributed as a dmg.

External max libraries and resources used to develop _derivations include:

b.blocks is a library for Max/MSP/Jitter, providing a set of modules for quick prototyping in interactive multimedia systems.
Existing modules include video analysis, audio and communication with external devices.

Each module is an abstraction, used inside bpatcher objects, providing a set of controls for each module's main functions. A full list can be found here.

The b.blocks library was developed in 2009 for my Masters thesis in the Multimedia program at FEUP - Porto, Portugal. It has since then been used in several applications and multimedia installations, and Master thesis proposals.

Suggestions and comments are most welcome.

A few useful abstractions I've created to help me out in my everyday patching. Some simple and some not-so-simple stuff, just a little something.

Here's a brief description of the contents (more detailed description in the README.maxpatt file)

lao.auto: automates a stream of input.lao.auto2: identical to [lao.auto] but works with two inputs simultaneously (e.g. for use with [pictslider]lao.divbang: outputs a [bang] after X bangs have been receivedlao.hoh: "hit or hold", if you hit a key it changes one toggle; if you hold that key for more than 100ms it shows a different toggle, which shows 1 for as long as that key is pressed and 0 when it's lifted.lao.kkup: a combination of [key] and [keyup], it outputs 1 when a specified key is held down, and 0 when it is releasedlao.mx: mutually-exclusive toggles; cross-attach a lao.mxt object with an argument (e.g. lao.mxt lolz) to a toggle, and any similar instances (and other toggles cross-attached to lao.mxt toggles with the same argument) will be mutually exclusive, even if they are put in subpatchers. the argument/group can be changed through the second inletlao.nipplebang: n-ple bang, it outputs a bang if X bangs have been received within Y millisecondslao.rand: a randomiser with more options, you can define minimum and maximum values, as well as step size (works with floats and negative numbers too)

A couple of abstractions have been added and some existing ones have been cleaned up a bit.

This is a growing set of abstractions dealing with simple drawing issues. It includes:

MRdistance, calculate the distance between 2 points in either 2D or 3D

MRlineBT, ensure a given line is always drawn from bottom to top

MRlineToAngle, calculate the angle of a given line

MRlineToRect, find the bounding rectangle of a given line

MRpointInCircle, detect if given point falls within a defined circle

MRpointInRect, detect if given point falls within a defined rect

MRpointInSphere, detect if a given point falls within a sphere

MRpointOnLine, detect if a given point falls on a defined line

MRpointToRect, create a rectangle from a given point

MRradiusToRect, given a radius, calculate the bounding rectangle

MRrectCenter, calculate the center of a given rectangle

MRrectEnlarge, enlarge or shrink a given rect by a %age

MRrectToRadius, calculate the radius of a circle inside a given rect

MRrectWH, calculate the width and height of a given rectangle (now int or float)

Some abstractions make use of the “nTb-MRr” abstractions which are also included. They are not 100% necessary to run any MRgeometry, but some helpfiles use them.
