Hoa Library is a collection of C++ classes and MAX/MSP objects destined to high order ambisonic sound reproduction. It‘s totally free and made availlable by CICM, a research center bi-localized between Paris 8 University and the MSH. 

The library is available for OSX and Windows on the HoaLibrary website.

The CICM is pleased to announce the new release of the HOA Library that includes 3D rendering.

The HOA library  (High Order Ambisonics)  is a collection of C++ classes and a set of FAUST functions destined to sound spatialization.

The HOA library allows musicians and composers to synthesize, transform and render sound fields in a creative and artistic way. It aims facilitating the understanding and the appropriation of key concepts of Ambisonics. It offers original processing like diffuse sound field synthesis, perspective distortion or spatial filtering and new graphical interfaces. The library is available for Pure Data, Max and as VST plugins.

The HOA library is free, open-source and made available by the CICM, the centre of research on musical composition and computer science of the University Paris 8.
The project has been developed as a part of the LABEX Arts H2H at the MSH Paris-Nord and the plate-forme Arts-Sciences-Technologies.

SoundStroll is a kind of 3D audio sequencer. It is a tool for placing sounds in a virtual landscape (a very bare landscape) constructed with jitter OpenGL, and triggering them and spatializing them around you as you take a stroll in this virtual sound world.

SoundStroll exists as a MaxMSP project, which is to say a set of MaxMSP patches ; as such it should be compatible with Windows and Mac OSX (made with Max 6.1.9 on OSX 10.6.8)

Any kind of feedback will be appreciated. A possible lot of things might be half broken or badly programmed, but i want to believe it is usable by someone else than me at this point ! An attempt at tutorial is included, so fear not to enter this oddity.

SoundStroll is a tool for placing sounds in an open 3D virtual landscape and triggering them as you take a stroll through your soundscape.

SoundStroll exists as a MaxMSP project, which is to say a set of MaxMSP patches ; as such it should be compatible with Windows and Mac OSX (made with Max 6.1.9 on OSX 10.6.8). It is intended to be free and open source (though one still needs to possess a MaxMSP 6 licence to modify the sources) under the terms of CreativeCommons Attribution-Non Commercial licence (cc by nc).
The shown example also uses the spatialisation tools from IRCAM, which are non-free nor open source. However, it is possible to easily adapt the system to any other spatialisation toolset available in MaxMSP ; and provided with the current distribution is a fully functionnal binaural engine using the free HOA library (which must be installed separately).

(You might notice occasional hiccups ; my video recording skills and setup are not that good.)

The ICST Ambisonics tools are a set of externals for full 3D surround audio processing.

In addition to the DSP-objects capable of encoding and decoding Ambisonics signals up to 11th order, the suite includes a GUI and a trajectory control object for the source control in any surround setup.

Under development and in use since 2003 the tools are freely available and work in 32bit and 64bit architectures on Mac and Windows.
