Cycling '74 has recently given us some really nice updates such as the Mira update and the MPE & Blocks implementation. This is my project that implements the updates.

Granurise is a real-time Looper, Sampler and Granular synth which integrates with the outside world trough Ipad Mira, Midi–MPE & OSC.

117934~ is an experiment to extract new sounds from a classical upright piano via sound manipulation. The audience is presented with a composition of familiar listening habits and newly created sounds. The sound of the piano is picked up by a self-built 32-pin single-coil pick-up and two microphones. The hole audio manipulation process via granular-synthesis is done in a especially developed piece of Max software.

The work is focused on the development of this software to edit live-recorded sound material in real-time. The Max-based program allows the access of the latest 12 seconds of played audio. With the help of a gesture recognition sensor it is possible to choose any sector of this sequence and let it repeat endlessly. The chosen sector gets buffered and can be manipulated by granular-synthesis in real-time. The program flow and parametrization of the granular-synthesis is visualized by a Graphical User Interface developed in Max and is controlled by a foot-controller.

An interactive installation which aims to create a sonification of stars and constellations data through a dedicated interface.

Since there’s no sound in space, I wanted to to conceptualize a link between electromagnetic and sound waves allowing visitors to learn about specific stars through sound information.

Two players can use the system at the same time, by moving their right hands over the two black, circular sensors.

The data rendered for each star are: temperature (color index: red star = old and cold, blue star = hot and young), brightness (as seen from Earth), distance (from Earth) respectively mapped into: frequency (Hz), amplitude (dB), duration (ms).

The project has been developed using Arduino, Leap Motion and Max7. 

Objects used include Maxuino (maxuino.org) and aka.leapmotion by Masayuki Akamatsu. 

Data of more than 300 stars and 44 constellations have been stored from the open-source software Stellarium.org, and coded to interact with the robotic arms.
