Congratulations to Andrea and Daniele on the release of Bach beta 0.7, which is a massive update with tons of new features and performance improvements.

For those of you who have not heard of the Bach project, it is a huge and fully featured traditional music notation system for MaxMSP.

Forms is a real-time audiovisual synthesis exercise.

Driven by a set of rules for graphic generation based on randomness and probability, a custom software proposes a series of visual compositions created in realtime and never repeating.

These scores can be framed within the tradition of graphic musical notation that gained strength among twentieth-century composers and which allowed music to be released from tone, bars and the rigidity of classic staves.

Thanks to a real-time "sonification" engine written in MAX/MSP which reads (using the Syphon external) graphics created in realtime with Processing, images are transformed into sound using spectral synthesis algorithms. A header runs through the image from left to right, interpreting that small vertical fragment of the image. 

Forms is periodically evolving with new graphic and sonic algorithms, and is being permanently streamed at Playmodes’ Twitch channel, 24 hours a day during the pandemia lockdown.

MaxScore provides standard western music notation in Max/MSP and Ableton Live

MaxScore is a Max Java (mxj) object which accepts messages that can create a musical score, add notes to it, transform the notes, perform, save, and load the score, and export the score to popular formats for professional publishable results.

MaxScore is more than a notation tool. It is an interactive performance object. MaxScore can play back a score and drive your MSP patches through an instrument interface. Scores can be created and modified in real-time and rendered as Jitter matrices. You can add notes explicitly by specifying durations, pitches and dynamic, or use Max to generate an arbitrary stream of musical events and use MaxScore’s Transcriber to notate them automatically.

The MaxScore / LiveScore Editors will give you the power of a notation environment with floating palettes, plugins and graphics with the option to  create traditional or graphical scores and to export them to pdf.

rndmanager is the name for an external written in C for MAX/MSP 5.

The idea is to allow for a different style of music notation system, which can be altered in real time according to 6 parameters :
- freq ( = rhythmic density ) mean value / heterogeneity
- amplitude mean value / heterogeneity
- on-ratio ( = length of an event ) mean value / heterogeneity

bach: automated composer's helper is a cross-platform set of patches and externals for Max, aimed to bring the richness of computer-aided composition into the real-time world.

bach provides you with two new data types: rational numbers and lllls (an acronym for Lisp-like linked lists), the latter being a list capable to contain other lllls in itself, a bit like a Lisp list. In addition to that, it includes a large collection of tools for operating upon these new types and a number of advanced facilities and graphical interfaces for musical notation, with support for microtonal accidentals of arbitrary resolution, measured and non-measured notation, polymetric notation, support for MusicXML files and much more.

bach is a completely independent project by composers Andrea Agostini and Daniele Ghisi. For this reason its main focus is on musical representation, analysis and composition. Nonetheless, the data types it provides, along with their related tools, may have a much broader area of application.

bach is distributed as freeware and is still in the alpha phase. To obtain the latest version of this software, please refer to the official website www.bachproject.net.
