DOW JONES is a real-time singing portrait of the US stock market, and by extension, the U.S economy. Each business day millions of publicly owned company stocks and shares are bought, sold and exchanged in a perpetual cycle for capital gain. DOW JONES interprets the resulting fluctuations in share values from companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Index to create a continuous sound of economic highs and lows.

The project uses the STOCKWATCH object in MAX to bring in real-time stock data from the yahoo.finance website. Each companies stock value is then mapped, using MAX, to a video database of clips singing the Solfège, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do. These videos are then pushed to three alternating displays in the gallery space.

This installation refers to characteristic soundscapes of Krakow.

By moving hands above a map of the city, visitors can experience various soundscapes of different parts of the city.

It’s built using light sensors which react on the changing of the light while hovering the map with hands. Sensors are connected to an Arduino shell and the elaboration of data and sounds is made with Max7.

The soundscape recordings were made with a binaural recording technique, which allows to recreate a realistic impression of the hearable environment.

KRK SoundShadows is the result of a collaboration between Francescco Fabris, Denim Szram and Patrycja Maksilewic for the “European Affairs” Exposition at the international meeting between the University of Art Science of The Hague (Netherlands) and the Intermedia Department of Krakow (Poland).

Tectonic is a sound sculpture created in real time by earthquakes as they occur across the globe. A tightly integrated system between Max/MSP, Google Earth and Ableton Live processes a stream of real-time data that is translated into synthesis and sample playback parameters.
