Lines is a Place to Discuss Sound, Process, and Technology
One of the groups that has always enthusiastic about Max is the Monome community. After years of gathering on the monome.org forum, Brian Crabtree started a new site called “lines”, found at http://llllllll.co.
Brian kicked off the website with a post explaining the intent, but also provided the following statement in response to my query:
my goal was to foster a community -- which really only requires providing infrastructure and setting a tone.
many people have come together around monome given its open-ended and open-source nature, but having a product-driven community narrows the scope of conversation and discourages discussing of wider ideas.
before the transition, the monome community had become quite large and very active: over a dozen user-organized compilation releases, more max patches than we can sort, even a festival in new mexico where grid users converged and played for several days. but instead of trying to own that energy or attempt to take credit, i wanted to liberate it -- to have this identity and momentum remain in the hands of those people who've invested their time.
so there is still a lot of talk about monome devices on lines (these are objects that promote discussion in their very being) but also now there are extensive threads on topics as varied as:
It’s cool to have another location for like-minded people to talk about their artistic passion, and I encourage you to add the [lines] site to your often-visited islands on the Web.
