Rhythm Necklace

Our friends Sam Tarakajian and Meara O’Reilly released a new iOS music app this week called Rhythm Necklace. Sam reports that Max was key to their prototyping process, but even if it played no role at all, I would still enjoy using it. It works beautifully as an interactive composition tool but beyond that, using it made me feel as if I was learning some deeper insights about the nature of rhythm, something I never felt while programming a drum machine. Plus it has a whole complement of indulgences including external sync, MIDI export and a “C78” Drumkit. Check out the brief video below to see it in operation.

Hey, Sam here, sorry we didn't get back to you sooner. Rhythm Necklace definitely works with MIDI synths on iPhone and iPad. In fact, there's a great video review here that shows Rhythm Necklace working with Roland Sound Canvas http://thesoundtestroom.com/rhythm-necklace-geometric-sequencer-tutorial-for-ipad/

One thing to keep in mind is that Rhythm Necklace doesn't currently run in the background, so it won't send MIDI out while you're looking at another app. This will be fixed in the next update, however. Thanks for your interest.
