Using Plug-ins and Max for Live Devices with Max

One of the ways that Max makes your life easier is the ability to host and control VST/Audio Units plug-ins and softsynths. Max 7 includes the ability to add one of the umptyzillion Max for Live (.amxd) devices featured on www.maxforlive.com to your Max patches.

Here's a short guide to adding and animating plug-in parameters.

Can I use amxd devices in Max for Live? I get an error trying this: "max~ and amxd objects are not supported in Live"

As you've seen, this doesn't quite work. Instead, you make a device that will feed into your amxd, and chain them within Max for Live. Alas, it's not so useful for making 'composite' devices, but using the rack system gives you the ability to build pretty incredible systems inside of Live itself.

Yes, quite right, sometimes it just might be handier to do some parameter changes from within the Max patch. But of course you can do this otherwise too.
