Loudon Stearns produces electronic music and builds custom instruments using Ableton, Max, and pretty much anything that resonates or can be electrified. With over 20 years of experience teaching and developing courses in composition, performance, stage technology, sound design, and music production at Berklee College of Music, Professor Compressor (the Sonic Sensei), is known for his dynamic teaching approach that blends fundamental concepts with joyful experimentation.
Loudon is an accomplished educator and artist, specializing in music production, music technology, and live performance. His work encompasses creating electronic music and custom musical instruments, particularly with Max for Live and Ableton. As an educator, Loudon has designed over 20 classes for Berklee and has delivered presentations globally. He teaches at Berklee Online and provides personalized one-on-one lessons, having founded the 'Live Music Production and Design' Graduate program at BerkleeNYC in 2022 to further integrate music production with live performance. His teaching and design contributions have earned him a curriculum design award from Berklee College of Music and excellence awards in teaching and media art.
Ever a student, Loudon graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2001 with degrees in Contemporary Writing and Production and Bass Performance, and from Emerson College with a Master of Fine Arts in Media Art in 2015. He earned his certification as an Ableton Live trainer in 2018, further enhancing his teaching capabilities.
In his role as a technical director, Loudon develops immersive and emotionally engaging, technology-heavy live musical performances. Driven by a passion for synthesis and exploring new realms of experience, he continually seeks sounds never heard, images never seen, and feelings yet to be felt.
