Sam Wells is a musician and multimedia artist using Max to create dynamic and interactive audiovisual performances, custom performance interfaces, unique signal processing of acoustic instruments, and live video processing. Sam believes that Max can be a gathering place for exciting artistic collaborations across diverse practices and media.

Sam is a trumpeter, composer, improvisor, multimedia artist, creative technologist, and educator based in Philadelphia. As a Max Certified Trainer he, is excited to help people achieve their own artistic vision and develop rich, and meaningful collaborations facilitated through Max. He offers expertise in a wide range of expertise in Max topics including Javascript, Jitter, OpenGL, Gen, and Max for Live.

As an educator, Sam teaches a wide range of learners from first-time users to advanced professionals in a variety of settings. With a focus on helping each learner develop Max skills to support their unique practice, Sam has taught at numerous colleges across the United States in addition to private lessons, workshops, and public presentations.

Sam is a board member of SPLICE Music, an organization dedicated to the performance, creation, and development of music for performers and electronics. At SPLICE Institute, Sam teaches several advanced Max workshops investigating a wide range of performance applications of Max.

Sam is a member of SPLICE Ensemble and has additionally performed with Contemporaneous, Metropolis Ensemble, TILT Brass, and the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra. Sam has recorded on the Scarp Records, New Amsterdam/Nonesuch, New Focus Records, SEAMUS, and Ravello Recordings labels.

As a Max Certified Trainer, Sam is available for private lessons, project consultations, group workshops, and guest teaching.
