Dr. Zeynep Özcan is a sonic artist, electronic music composer and educator who works at the intersection of art and technology. She explores biologically inspired musical creativity, interactive and immersive environments, and generative systems. She is passionate about community building and creating multicultural and collaborative learning experiences for students through technology-driven creativity.
Zeynep holds a Ph.D. in Music and a Master’s in Architectural History. She is an Assistant Professor and the faculty director of the Girls in Music and Technology Summer Camp at the Department of Performing Arts Technology at the University of Michigan. She also contributes to secondary education and community training through outreach initiatives.
Max has been a central component of her practice as a multidisciplinary artistic researcher, where she combines it with other creativity tools like Processing and Ableton Live. She offers workshops and artist talks that are accessible to both beginners and advanced users. She specializes in the implementation of software systems for music-making, audio programming, sonification, sensors and microcontrollers, novel interfaces for musical expression, and large-scale interactive installations.
She is a trained singer and pianist, who performs across a range of genres. As an author, she wrote works of fiction, contributed book chapters on electronic music and audio production, and published academic articles at leading conferences, such as ICMC and AES.
