Hey Leopold. I am emailing from my phone.I haven't gotten to check out
your patch.I would see if the same nameconform bug exhibits itself with
the nameconform max external.conformpath or whatever it is called.if it
does than it is a problem in the kernel.as far as getting a numeric file
handle it is not going to happen anytime soon if ever. That is part of
max that we chose not to expose to java given that java programmers are
able to work with unix style paths.finally it should be trivial to roll
your own nativePathToMaxPath function. The one that goes the other way
in MaxSystem is hand rolled itself.Hope that helps!

Steps to reproduce :
* create a sound file that has more than 32 characters (I already know
the workaround thanks ;) )
* open your preferred max-style filebrowser : yours
* browse to the right path and select the sound file you've just created
and try to open it in sfplay~ or buffer~
* phone me back ;)
Was there ever a solution to this problem? I cannot get long file names to convert properly to the version with the hex codes in them. Because of this, so far, my java file browser is useless since most of the files I am accessing have long names.
I tried moth the Java method and the max patcher method [conformpath] and both of them leave the file in it's long name.
