In Triplicate

Inspired by the Granular Synthesis work Modell 5, In Triplicate is a performance exploration utilizing audio-visual sampling. Drawing further inspiration from slit-scan photography, In Triplicate renders multiple points in time simultaneously in both the audio and visual realm.

Using one camera and one microphone the performer turns captured moments of fevered release into palettes that can be stretched, ripped, and fractured across expanses of time. With the performer’s face rendered into a monolithically-sized triptych, the audience is exposed to flashes of vulnerability and ferocity. This approach allows for a computer based instrument that pursues intimacy and narrative, two aspects of computer music that are often difficult to attain.

Coded entirely in Max 7.

The video side of the project is heavily based off the 3D texture sampling example subtex.3d while the audio side is driven by the 2d.wave~ object.
