Max is used as a music interface for the Altair thanks to the "serial" object.

My Altair outputs binary codes in a very similar fashion to MIDI @9600 Baud (8n1)

I had to invent my own midi code inside the altair, using Assembly language. (to stick as much as possible to the 70s I've programmed the Altair running its CP/M 2.2 ASM assembler and Word Master editor).

Max receives the data and produces the sounds. The max patch is quite simple.

A byte is used to control ON/OFF gates of the drum machine 8 channels, and another byte tells to Max what (and when) drum sample must play at each step of the 8 step sequence.
