Bill Kleinsasser Shared Software

The goal of this project is to openly share all of the Max/MSP/Jitter software development that I have created over the past decades. In addition I am sharing notation and representative recordings of my compositions that integrate computer music with traditional instruments. I do this in the hope that the collection might help others and more fully open my compositions, creative process, and musical thinking to those who might be interested and curious about similar exploration and creativity. In an important and personal way, the software shared here, in addition to the compositions themselves, are a direct reflection of how I have thought and worked as a composer. I see this collection as a kind of unorthodox text illuminating my evolving take on creating music.

New Installment Composition Draftworks (released April 2022)
Thank you!
Bill that is very generous of you! What an amazing collection. Thank you.
Thank you all for the kind words and support.
Bill
Yeah. It's an amazing collection of work - as well as a trace of your own development. I found the collection of "auxilliary" tools as interesting as some of the main event. :-)
Hi, I'd like to study some of these patches but I'm a bit confused as to how to install the supporting materials. I really apologize for not understanding this, I'll try to ask these questions as clearly as possible.
- The cycling74 for blog post says "So: Do Not Pass "Go." Pause and download the Supporting materials .zip file and put it something in your search path before you start." What does this mean? I assume it should read "somewhere in your search path..." Can I just simply put the unzipped folder anywhere and add a new path in the file preferences window?
- I noticed some of the folder have specific instructions in their titles. Such as "Place in your User-Documents-Max 8-Styles folder" Do I place the entire folder or just the two individual files in the styles folder?
- Again, "WK Library (Place in -Users-Shared-Max8 folder)" this has quite a few subfolders and files. Do I just place the entire folder in the Shared-Max8 folder?
Once these folders are in place do I need to make file paths for each of them?
Thanks for your patience, this sort of admin stuff confuses me more than anything.
Nate, You're on the right track. I suggest putting the folders with "Place in..." names into those folders on your computer. Put the two folders and all of their contents in those two places, subfolders and all. Those locations should already be recognized by Max's file paths. You should relaunch Max after placing them. Or, you could just add the supporting documents file in your preferences for file paths in Max and then relaunch Max. I hope it works for you.
Ok, seems like I've got it. The 1st patch I downloaded was DSP_Rack, it doesn't seem to have the "color theme notice" built in, as soon as I tried another patch it appears to have opened as intended.
Thank you Bill, looking forward to exploring your work.
Thanks for the heads-up, Nate. I've now added the "color theme notice" to DSP_rack if you want to download it again.
Thanks Bill for your generous share.
For those interested, I'm about to post a new installment to this project in the coming weeks called Composition Draftworks. The new addition is a set of 70+ composition utilities and tools all combined using a matrix approach to module inputs and outputs so that any process can run independently or in parallel or serial relation to other processes with an input sequencer and output sequencer. Much of this work dates back decades and some is more recent. I'll post here when it's uploaded in the coming weeks.

If you are interested, I've now posted Composition Draftworks on my Shared Software Project site.

Oh cool....
Today, I noticed an issue with the main patch not finding some of the sub-patches when launching. I think it's been addressed and I've re-uploaded the project .zip file. I replaced the"1.0.maxpat" with "1-0.maxpat" in the folder name, removed the • character from the patch name, relaunched and re-saved the patch and it seems fine now. Other than that, I don't know why it would have suddenly lost track of sub-patches in the project folder.
I downloaded the project and installed JAVA libraries, but the main screen is lacking content. Please advise.

Hi Michael,
You will need to install a few things first for it to work. See:
Supporting Materials Download this first and place contents in specific folders on your computer as indicated
at the main project website page. Then also be sure to have the Max Preferences/Color Theme set to Light for my software to appear correctly.
