Composición Colectiva IV: Plaga Electroacústica [Collective Composition IV: Electroacoustic Infestation]

Interactive Sound Installation using 3D video tracking (Microsoft’s Kinect), two-dimensional ambisonics sound spatialization (IRCAM’s spat~), real-time processing, and Max MSP patch. Mystic and alien sounding insects fly around passers by, with the goal of protecting a sonic nest. Walkers find themselves threatened and interacting with them. Be aware! and enjoy composing music while playing.

Awesome stuff! can you tell me which model of Microsoft’s Kinect are you using exactly?

Thanks Snickers! This project (and all the others on my profile) were made with the old 1414, the one they called "Kinect for Xbox 360". I think it was the first model they released? 2010 I believe. It came with a USB and a power AC adapter, quite convenient :)

Thanks Nico, that's so cool! I believe that is the model that I have managed to get my hands on but I have struggled to find a way to use it on my current computer (2018 MBP). Do you mind telling me the names of some, if not all, the kinect specific software/externals you used to interface with max?

No problem. I have to say it was long ago and I haven't try to run these patches since then. I remember it wasn't easy to get it working. Basically you have to install Processing which is in charge of decoding all the Kinect data (by using a combination of OpenNi sources and Lisusb), and then it sends it to Max through OSC, I have a MBP 2012 then. Yes, you'd need to change some things in the operative system which is not fun. I took a lot (if not any) form this blog: https://decyborg.wordpress.com/2013/01/19/kinect-on-os-x-10-8-and-processing/ Anyhow, I sort of remember it works just for OSX 10.8? maybe.... Not sure if this will help you, but may give you some hints and new links to discover.
