Function

Function by mHz | Important Records
DESCRIPTION:
Function is an aesthetic exploration of digital audio at an elemental level: a sequence of quantized amplitude values. The entire sonic material in this series are generated through a custom-designed Max4Live patch that takes a mathematical function as input, and reinterprets it as a digital waveform. Accordingly, each track in the album is named after one mathematical function, where the function itself is used as the only sound-generating engine.
M4L INSTRUMENT
The M4L instrument is a not-quite-proper (DSP-wise) patch that I have developed to use as the only sound-generating tool for the entire album.
The idea here is simple: generate the raw material for the entire album (including all rhythmic and timbral structures) using a down-sampled, non-antialiased, pseudo-wavetable synthesis engine.
