Intervallic Demon with piano

The third in a series of Intervallic Demon videos by Joel Fairstein that generate new music in realtime. Tempo and instruments change frequently in a panorama of texture, density, and color. This version adds piano, which helps bind the instrumental palette. Vizzie graphics react specifically to the individual instrument parts and twist into hieroglyphs over a moonscape.

Max made this project possible. Seven patches in Max generate MIDI in realtime, controlling a virtual rock orchestra and reactive graphics. Utilizing focused randomization of timing and dynamics, from master clock to individual percussion instruments, a natural, expressive feel was an attainable goal. Max offered all the programming tools for building this year-long algorithmic music and video project.
