noxin music system

With this patch I can improvise live in real time from tracks composed in the studio, without breaks. It’s composed of a bunch of home made sequencers and synthesizers, no samples at all. From the main interface I control all the sequences, tracks parts and presets. The sequencers are more or less traditional, but work within a network of relations between them that allow for more interesting structures, making every performance different. The synthesizers are a mixture of different synthesis techniques (for example, combining simple fm modules with simple karplus strong algorithms).
Max importance for me has to do with my own approach at making music, based on the constructions of my own instruments. Somehow I feel more comfortable working like that, as opposed to a timeline working routine, making all the process more iterative. Max is structured the way I make music, and that says all!

Hi,

thanks for your interest! I'm considering sharing it, but not right now. I'm making an album release with work that's stored on that patch, so it wouldn't be wise to share it until released. Meanwhile, if you want I'm more than happy to answer some questions about it that you might have.

Thank you,

João

the music is good stuff.

Thanks a lot for the kind words. I'm making an album release with music produced on this patch, I'll post it here when released. Also, after that I'm thinking about making the patch downloadable, if you wanna mess with it.
Best,
João

This is so nice. Iam new to Max and this is the totally the right dirrection I want to go with max: Building effective sequencers and FM + 303ish synths. I would love to experiment with your patch in the sake of learning Max. Really good music you made! Cheers /D.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll release the patch soon, when I'll release the album of tracks I made with this system.

be careful with sum compression. less is more. listen on laptop/without bass to control.

João Silva's icon

Cool, thanks for the tip, never thought of that. Actually, the patch doesn't have any compressor. What's happening is that I have the trigger of some percussive sounds activating some ampliude envelopes of another sounds, so you may perceive it as compression. I compressed a little bit on the final mix though, after the recording.

the other explanation would be that my laptop does this. on proper speakers all is good. on the laptop yesterday i found that those nice pad sound were sometimes pumping.

João Silva's icon

Ok. If you can tell me the track timing where it ocurred I can check it out.

Very nice track! Was all this created in real time algorithmicly?

João Silva's icon

Thanks! It was composed on the system, and then performed with some algorithmic processes, yes.

Any update? When does the album come out?

João Silva's icon

Well, it's not up to me now. The album is finished and delivered to the guys of the label, now it's in their hands. Wish I could give you a date.

Any news to share about this patch? Still very excited by your work : )

João Silva's icon

Sorry, no news yet. The process of releasing an album is very long, unfortunately... As soon as it's out I'll share this patch

Rushupden's icon

Hi man! How are you doing? What happened to this? Even if you maybe not will share your patch Im intrested in buying and listen to the tracks. :)

João Silva's icon

Hi Dennis. Thanks for the interest, it's very good to hear that. The album is set to be released on May 1st, but with the virus situation I'm afraid it's gonna be postponed...

Rushupden's icon

I understand totally. Is there somewhere I can follow you and your projects?

Sure, here it is: https://soundcloud.com/nnoxinn

Downloaded and looking forward to exploring your patching styles. Listened to a few selections last night with my dogs watching people from our car after a 10 hour drive, was entrancing. Wonderfully eerie atmospheric movement here. Thanks so much for sharing!

@joao
I am getting a couple errors in the console window - saying no smooth line or panning object exists. Am I missing a library or package that I should install?

João Silva's icon

Thank you Shimoda, glad you like it!
Ah, sorry about that. Yeah, they're from RTC-lib, forgot to mention. It's only a simple LR panner and an object for interpolation, that you can make easily with line object, or slide, if you dont want to install it.

I figured it out :) Cheers
